Job Title: Maintenance/ Refrigeration Technician I

Department: Maintenance

Rate: $35 – $40 per hour

Summary: Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in commercial or industrial establishments by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintenance:

  • Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment.

  • Listen for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discuss machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problems or repair machine.

  • Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts following proper safety protocols and procedures.
  • Use proper lock-out tag-out procedures at all times.

  • Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.

  • Install and repair electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment in adherence to all safety protocols and procedures.

  • Lay out, assemble, install and maintain pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators and related equipment.

  • Repair and maintain physical structure of establishment.

  • Install, program and repair automated machinery and equipment such as robots or programmable controllers.

  • Set up and operate machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.

  • Operate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.

  • Fabricate and repair counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures.

Refrigeration:

  • Start Refrigeration System (Normal)
  • Shut Down (Normal)
  • Shut Down (Emergency)
  • Shutting Down Compressors
  • Diagnose Defrost Control Group
  • Repair Solenoid Valve
  • Cleaning Condenser
  • Draining Oil Pots
  • Proper use of all PPE
  • Emergency Evacuation Procedures and Responsibilities (Emergency Action Plan
  • Plate Freezer PMs and upkeep
    1. Hose Replacement
    2. Hose Leaks
    3. Hose Changes

Uses equipment and materials properly.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates and Licenses:

Garden City Ammonia Program OR an equivalent program for Refrigeration Tech 1 training.

Work Environment:

Regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.

Frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and risk of electrical shock.

Occasionally exposed to work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather).

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands:

Regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds

Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms Frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Occasionally required to sit.
