Duties
This position serves as a journeyman level Maintenance Mechanic and is responsible for performing various tasks in the maintenance, repair of grounds, upkeeping of grounds related structures, fixtures, buildings, and utilities. The incumbent works directly under the direction of the FMS supervisor who provides oral and written instructions and relies upon the incumbent to accomplish the assigned work operations within the limits of policies and basic schedules set by management officials.

Typical work assignments include:
  • Performing a variety of maintenance duties such as maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment, grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures and utilities using a variety of trade practices such as Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, painting, and carpentry work and other related trades.
  • Performing installation, modification, repairing, maintaining, troubleshooting, testing, and loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment to applicable equipment such as transformers, generators and transfer switches, aircraft ground support equipment, clinic equipment, motor control centers, alarm systems, appliances, kitchen equipment, distribution panels, lighting fixtures, outlet boxes, switches, thermostats, various machines, and wiring, etc.
  • Providing direction and or assistance to active-duty Coast Guard personnel during the performance of electrical work.
  • Operating forklifts, scissor lift, boom lifts, golf cart, utility vehicles, standard government vehicles up to one (1-ton), pick-up trucks.
  • Towing small, trailered generator short distances is also required at times.
  • Installing, identifying the cause of faulty equipment and makes repairs and modifications on large systems such as air conditioners, air compressors, boilers, dehumidifiers, heaters, refrigerators, ventilation systems, mini-split systems, water heaters and dehumidifiers, etc.
  • Performing a variety of plumbing maintenance which involves removing, cleaning, replacing, packing, and sealing defective parts of utility, supply, and disposal systems such as dirty traps, sections of broken tile pipe, and leaky drains.
  • Measuring, cutting, constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying wood, composite, and wood substitute items where specific fit and accuracy are within allowable limits to produce a serviceable product.

The incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain an EPA Section 608 Universal Technician Certification.
The incumbent must be able to distinguish either basic or shades of colors.
