JOB SUMMARY
The Maintenance Helper performs various tasks and/or assists journeymen with tasks related to the maintenance and operation of the marina or marine terminals facilities.
This position does not provide automatic advancement to a maintenance journeyman or other ILWU positions.

- The Maintenance Helper requires limited supervision from the assigned Director, and close work direction by the assigned Foreman or Lead.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions
- Perform janitorial work throughout the Port facilities as assigned. Assignments may include but are not limited to daily cleaning and stocking of restrooms, shower facilities, laundry rooms, and offices and warehouse/shop spaces.
- Perform general groundskeeping of Port property, including sweeping, raking, shoveling, painting, power washing, garbage disposal, and recycling.
- Perform landscape maintenance work throughout Port’s property and walking trails, including mowing, trimming, weeding and raking. Complete minor repairs as directed.
- Respond positively to customers and visitors, answering questions and handling requests that fall within the scope of the position's responsibilities. Refer other requests and issues to appropriate personnel.
OTHER MONTHLY JOB DUTIES
- Fill the role of marina fuel dock attendant as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Work Experience:
- Six (6) months related work or volunteer experience. Related work experience in janitorial, groundskeeping, light maintenance and working with the public is desirable.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos in English. Ability to effectively communicate with customers, clients and coworkers.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute fees and percentages.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Valid driver’s license, and insurability under the Port of Everett auto insurance plan.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
