The City's Maintenance Division is looking to hire two candidates for their team. These positions are specifically for the Graffiti Abatement program.To perform a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks in the maintenance of buildings, parks, parkways, assessment districts, general benefit areas, streets, and related facilities.This is the entry-level class in the Maintenance Division. Positions assigned to this class work under immediate supervision in the performance of a wide variety of routine unskilled to semi-skilled building, park, parkways, general benefit areas, street, and assessment districts maintenance tasks. Generally, work is observed and reviewed during performance and upon completion, and changes in procedures or exceptions to rules are explained in detail as they arise.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDImmediate supervision is provided by higher-level maintenance personnel.Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:Remove graffiti at various locations citywide in keeping with established procedures. Using a variety of methods including hot pressure washer, paint pump, paint cans and/or paint roller.Document graffiti locations by using the graffiti tracker system for internal and external users.Clean and care for tools and equipment.Assist with maintenance projects in various programs.Perform related duties as assigned.Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:One year of experience performing duties like those performed by a Maintenance Helper.The ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful performance of required duties.LICENSE OR CERTIFICATEPossession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license and legally required vehicle insurance. Must also be able to meet driving record standards set by the city's driving policy.Knowledge of:Common facilities & groundskeeping maintenance methods and associated equipment.PaintingHorticultureBasic carpentry, plumbing, and electricity.Basic knowledge of asphalt and concrete.Ability to:Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Operate small power equipment safely.Perform unskilled to semi-skilled tasks in the construction and maintenance of public works and/or park related facilities.Perform heavy physical labor.Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties, including the performance of strenuous labor and the lifting of heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
