JOB TITLE: Electrical & Controls Technician
STARTING PAY RANGE: $32.61 - $33.37 per hour (as of Feb. 2024)

JOB PURPOSE (Job Objective)
The jobholder’s objectives are to install, maintain, troubleshoot and repair the electrical & controls equipment in the plant.
DIMENSIONS (Facts and Figures)
The job holder is responsible for accomplishing the preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance tasks in the plant as directed by the maintenance staff.
CONTEXT (Nature and Scope of Activities)
Oversee maintenance, testing and installation:
Install, maintain and test LV/MV electrical equipment to include:
AC/DC Motors and Motor Controls (Across the line, Soft Start, VFD)
Switchgear, Transformers, Load Break Switch Distribution Equipment
Fuses, Power Circuit Breakers, Load Centers and Breaker Panels
Wiring, Terminations and Grounding Systems
Use a range of electrical test instruments including Megger, DLRO, Tic Tracer, DVOM, Clamp Amps, 4-20Ma Signal Generators, Sensor Calibrators, etc.
Install, maintain and test control and instrumentation equipment to include:
Plant PLC Hardware (analog & digital I/O, wiring, power supplies)
Controllers, Relays, HMI Panels, Communication Modules & related wiring
Instrumentation & Sensors (Pressure, Temp, Level, Gas analysis, Weight, Flow)
Control Valves, Actuators and Limit Switches
Plant PLC Hardware: Front-line maintenance and diagnostics
Instrumentation (Thermocouple, RTD, Pressure, Level, Flow, Weight and Gas)
Perform Basic PLC Program Reading and Diagnostics (Siemens S7/PCS7, Allen Bradley)
Oversee maintenance and testing of Low/Medium Voltage:
Perform equipment inspections, maintenance tasks and assigned project work
Troubleshoot equipment, controls and wiring to detect malfunctions and discuss machine operations with production and maintenance personnel to diagnose problems.
Dismantles defective equipment repairs or installs parts to bring the equipment back into service.
Read electrical diagrams and manuals required to install and troubleshoot equipment
Sets up and operates shop and portable tools to accomplish his tasks.
Install, Test and Maintain motors and gearboxes, as well as perform laser coupling alignments.
Support the effort to maximize equipment availability to Production Department
Perform work following NFPA70E Electrical Procedures and Plant Safety Standards
Electrical Control wiring, devices and schematics
Metal-Clad Switchgear, Air/Vacuum Breakers, Transformers, Panels and Wiring
Electric Motor maintenance and testing (windings, rotor, bearings, etc)
Utilize Volt/Amp meters, Megohm meters, Signal Generators and various test instruments
Utilize Electrical Drawings and Manuals during equipment maintenance and diagnostics

Principal Accountabilities
∙Safety –Implementation of electrical safety guidelines and procedures for electrical work is compliant with NEC, OSHA, NFPA 70E and Company Safety Regulations.
∙Personnel – Development through training on-the-job and formal / informal training
Equipment - Ensure the reliability of plant electrical and control equipment
Planning – Assist in the preparation of work schedules for routine and shutdown periods
Quality - Ensure that the Electrical work conforms to the standards and guidelines established in the ISO 9002 quality assurance manual
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Journeyman Electrician License or equivalent Electrical Controls/Automation Certification
Use a range of electrical test instruments including Megger, DLRO, Tic Tracer, DVOM, Clamp Amps, 4-20Ma Signal Generators, Sensor Calibrators, etc.
Minimum Five years of industrial electrical and controls maintenance experience
Proficiency with instrumentation and programmable logic controller work
Experience with low/medium voltage distribution equipment
Working knowledge of industrial NEC Codes and relevant Electrical Safety Procedures
Intermediate Computer Skills, Including Microsoft Office
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals.
Experience with utilizing a work order system within a CMMS.
Experience with Electrical Reliability preferred.
Mechanical skills preferred.
Experience using mobile equipment (Forklift, Lull, Man lift, Scissor lift).
Experience troubleshooting, proposing solutions.
DEGREE OF SUPERVISION OR DIRECTION
Moderate supervision is expected. The jobholder must be a self-starter with the ability to accomplish maintenance and testing on their own.
Ability to work in a team environment with electrical/mechanical trades and production employees of different skill levels
