Performs maintenance and repairs to all equipment as defined in Contract or Statement of Work documents under the direct supervision of his/her immediate superior.
Repairs machinery or mechanical equipment.
Duties include but are not limited to: examining machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble; dismantling or partly dismantling machines and performing repairs that mainly involve the use of hand tools in scraping and fitting parts; replacing broken or defective parts; ordering the production of replacement parts if necessary; preparing written specifications for major repairs or for the production of parts ordered from outside sources; reassembling machines and making all necessary adjustments for operation.
In general, the work of a Maintenance Electrician requires rounded training and experience. Skill level required should be that of or comparable to a Journeyman Level Technician, with the ability to work towards Master Certification if necessary.
Employee shall perform Electrician duties to include, but not limited to, the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electric energy.
Work involves most of the following: installing or repairing a variety of electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems or other transmission equipment; working from blueprints, drawings, layouts or other specifications; locating and diagnosing trouble in the electrical system or equipment; working standard computations relating to load requirements of wiring or electrical equipment; and using a variety of electrician's hand tools, and measuring and testing instruments.
Performs other duties as assigned. Must be able to meet night and weekend requirements.
- Determine materials needed for repair work and prepare requisitions.
- Responsible for timely reporting of accidents, injuries, and hazardous situations.
With minimum Qualifications:
- High School graduate or equivalent.
- Journeyman Skill Level
- Extensive knowledge of applicable codes and standards.
- 1 year of experience in the maintenance of high voltage switchgear and substations (up to 35KV).
- Substation experience should include repair and servicing equipment such as oil circuit breakers, transformers, roll out breakers and switchgear controls (protective relays).
- 1 year of experience in reading electrical one-line drawings, diagrams of high voltage substations and switchgear, and interconnecting diagrams and equipment location drawings of the same equipment.
- 1 year experience with servicing generators and their associated automatic starting equipment.
