Job Overview:
Under general supervision performs skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and construction work on the potable water distribution system and/or wastewater collection system for Centerton Utilities. Typically will be working on a class 1 Water or Wastewater license and will have 0-1 year experience. Skilled and experienced applicants pay will be based on industry standards and license held.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting relationships and work assignments may be subject to change in order to meet operational requirements. Attendance and the ability to provide good customer service to both internal and external working relationships are essential elements of this position. Other duties may be assigned.
Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:
This is a safety/security sensitive position for the purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment and is subject to random drug testing and alcohol screening.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for gathering supplies and equipment for job assignments.
- Maintains logs of daily activities.
- Install and repair mains for both water and sewer.
- Install and repair water and sewer taps as needed.
- Repair water and sewer leaks.
- Dig ditches using picks, shovels, and other hand tools.
- Operate a backhoe, mini-excavator, skid steer, dump truck, dump trailer or other mechanically powered equipment.
- Makes and repairs "Cuts" in streets, curbs, and other property.
- Repairs and installs manholes, manhole covers, and clean out lines for sewer system.
- Removes and replaces grass, shrubs, small trees, and other landscaping before and after completion of projects.
- Clean work areas and tools upon completion of daily work projects.
- Make minor adjustments on service equipment to keep them in working order.
- Maintain and inspect truck and equipment such as tires, lights, brakes, gas, oil, and water.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Ability to obtain a Class 1 Water and/or Wastewater License within one year.
Ability to:
- Work with a variety of tools related to water and wastewater system maintenance.
- Learn to safely operate a variety of maintenance equipment.
- Perform heavy manual labor.
- Perform semi-skilled maintenance duties.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Read and understand schematic diagrams.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Maintain professional attitude, appearance and communication with the general public and customers.
Work environment and physical demands:
The work environment is performed primarily outdoors; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, and all types of weather and temperature conditions; work in or around water; exposure to hazardous traffic conditions; work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain; work at heights; incumbents may be required to respond to emergency and public calls after hours including evenings and weekends.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; to walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; to climb unusual heights on ladders; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight; to operate assigned equipment and vehicles; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
