Job description

This is a full time position working throughout the District
Purpose Statement
The job of Maintenance and Grounds Technician is done for the purpose/s of providing maintenance
services with specific responsibility for guiding assigned workers; ensuring completion of projects in
accordance with trade standards; providing information on the proper use of equipment; identifying repair
and/or replacement needs; performing minor to major maintenance including emergency repairs; ensuring
attractive and safe grounds areas and athletic fields; performing a variety of grounds maintenance
operations; overseeing grounds maintenance for assemblies, events, and or recreational activities; and
assisting skilled trades.
This job reports to Director of Facilities
Essential Functions
Assists in supervising contractors and summer grounds workers (e.g. coordinating work assignments,
evaluating quality of work, on schedule inspecting and/or evaluating projects, etc.) for the purpose of
ensuring that the projects are completed in a safe and efficient manner in compliance with regulatory
requirements.
Assists with site snow removal for the purpose of ensuring facility access and safety per snow removal
plan.
Communicates with administrators, personnel and outside organizations for the purpose of coordinating
activities, resolving issues and conflicts and exchanging information.
Dispatches Maintenance and/or grounds personnel or contractors for the purpose of processing service
requests and ensuring timely resolution of maintenance issues.
Estimates materials and/or equipment needed to compete work projects for the purpose of ensuring
timely completion of projects.
Inspects buildings, grounds and facilities (e.g. completed work, building and Grounds projects,
equipment, etc.) for the purpose of determining immediate Maintenance and repair needs and/or
recommending removal of fire, safety or health hazards.
Installs systems components (e.g. playground, classroom and office equipment, etc.) for the purpose of
providing a safe and efficient play or work environment.
Maintains a variety of files and records (e.g. inventory, work orders, labor/material estimates, equipment
repair manuals, etc.) for the purpose of providing an up to date reference.
Participates in and/or facilitates meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of
conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
Performs skilled maintenance, repair, installation and construction of district facilities (e.g. carpentry,
electrical, plumbing, painting; installation of irrigation and drainage components, sound systems, lighting,
generators, etc.) for the purpose of preserving and or updating district facilities.
Performs routine and preventative maintenance for the purpose of ensuring ongoing functioning of
district-wide systems.
Plants a variety of landscaping materials (e.g. lawns, shrubbery, etc.) for the purpose of keeping the
grounds attractive.
Prepares grounds (e.g. fertilizes soil, plants flower beds, etc.) for the purpose of providing adequate,
attractive and safe areas for assemblies, recreational activities and/or athletic events.
Recommends plans, procedures and/or specific actions for the purpose of addressing department goals,
objectives, and work-related needs.
Researches vendors, new or replacement products, laws, regulations, etc. for the purpose of
recommending and procuring purchases, contracts and maintaining district wide services.
Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns, during and after hours (e.g. facility damage,
vandalism, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action or notifying appropriate personnel
for resolution.
Trains assigned personnel on procedures used for general maintenance repair for the purpose of
developing employee professional and safety awareness skills.
Transports and maintains a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring the
availability of materials and tools needed for the job.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective
functioning of the work unit.
