Machinist

Main Function:
Machines various parts and components for most assemblies manufactured by American Crane. Reads and interprets blueprints as required to plan set-up and operations for all types of machining equipment and tools. Needs capability to use a full range of precision measuring and gauging tools to perform work as needed to meet customer satisfaction.
Education and Experience:
Education
- High school diploma.
- Vocational training program preferred.
- Machinist/Journeyman Certificate preferred.
Experience
- Manual machining (lathe and horizontal boring mill)
- CNC experience.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings/blueprints.
- Ability to use and read precision measuring tools.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.

Job Description:
Essential Duties
- Exercise general knowledge of machine shop procedures. 10% of the job
- Keep machine and immediate area clean, safe, and organized. 5%
- Take care of machine and tools. 5%
- Operate drill press, and milling machines. 15%
- Operate CNC machines. 5%
- Operate lathe and horizontal boring mills. 25%
- Use and read precision measuring tools; use and read blueprints and extract necessary information for machining purposes. 25%
- Have working knowledge of steel physical properties and characteristics; and trigonometry and geometry to perform machining tasks. 5%
- Capable of sharpening tools and making jigs as needed. 5%
- Capable of estimating time required to perform jobs.
- Use of general hand tools and other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Physical Effort
- Ability to climb access and extension ladders.
- Ability to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work a minimum of full-time hours; overtime required based on Manufacturing Plant schedule.
- Specific vision abilities required include close and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts and in precarious places.
- Occasionally exposed to warm, humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, vibration.
