Terran Orbital is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Supervisorto join our growing team. Reporting to senior leadership, the Machine Shop Supervisor will be responsible for producing varied, complex, and accurate tooling to supply prints to satisfy internal and external customers and for ensuring the production of complex, high-quality metallic and non-metallic parts.

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Supervise Machine Shop personnel in day-to-day operations
  • Responsible for establishing workstation assignments, employee training, overtime assignments and back-up for absent employees
  • Maintain and communicate Machine Shop schedule status to ensure meeting customer expectations
  • Identifying Continuous Improvement opportunities and implementing change to improve process, reduce cycle and setup times
  • Ensure all team members follow work instructions, quality requirements and processes
  • Provide continued training and skills development for team members, and mentor early career team member
  • Ensure start-up readiness for production
  • Maintain Machine Shop organization, safety, and cleanliness
  • Ability to perform interviews, evaluate talent and provide hiring recommendations
  • Must have a continuous improvement mindset
  • Fluent in use of precision hand tools
  • Able to utilize computers and software during daily duties
  • Self-motivation and ability to prioritize projects to meet completion dates
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Manages Machine Shop workload to maintain level loading and minimize overtime
  • Works with the production team to support level-loading machines with materials and processes
  • Reviews time standards and makes necessary adjustments to manufacturing work instructions
  • Supports/Schedules regular maintenance and repair of all equipment in the department
  • Studies production schedules and estimates worker-hour requirements for completion of job assignments
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase the efficiency of the shop, department, or work crew
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals
  • Maintains time and production records

Qualification and Skills

  • Completion of an equivalent of a two-year degree and/or technical certification or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions and percentages
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and frequently involved written or oral instructions

Salary Range: $75,000 - $100,000

Your actual level and base salary will be determined case-by-case and may vary based on the job-related qualification, knowledge, skills, education, and experience. Physical Demands

An employee must meet the physical demands described to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. In performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely required to sit or stand for long durations of time, in addition to bending, reaching, and walking. This would require the ability to lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. This position is generally sedentary, with substantial computer usage.

Work Environment

The job operates in a professional office environment but in a manufacturing company. This job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners.
