Description
The County Board for Dane County has a Limited Term Employee (LTE) Intern - Kassel-Dane Communications position available.

DEFINITION
The Office of the Dane County Board of Supervisors is providing an internship opportunity to students interested in international partnerships as well as communications, and social media management related to County Board efforts, in addition to supporting County committees.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The position will complete tasks in support of the County Board in general, as well as in support of the Kassel-Dane Sister County Task Force in particular.
General duties include: provide updates on social media, assist with coordinating events, assist with press releases, maintain communication with stakeholders locally and internationally, design reports/presentations/flyers/handouts, create short videos as needed on given topics, and special projects as assigned.
Duties related to the Kassel-Dane Sister County Partnership include: Provide updates on social media, including but not limited to: updating the Facebook page with a weekly schedule, Tweeting for the Kassel-Dane Twitter account, posting for the Kassel-Dane Instagram account, posting videos on YouTube, and website updates.
Duties related to supporting County committees include: Operates Zoom to run public meetings, pulls registration reports from Zoom; starts public meeting in Zoom; records public meetings in Zoom; checks Zoom settings before the start of meetings; mutes and unmutes meeting participants during meetings; promotes people registered to speak at a meeting to a panelist when the agenda items is before the body; changes the role of a panelist back to an attendee after testimony is taken; shares the screen in Zoom as needed; ends the public meeting in Zoom; converts the meeting to an .mp4 file and saves it to a shared drive; operates laptops, other audio-visual equipment, and word processing software.
Additional duties include: maintain database of contacts (for events and mailings); assist with coordinating special events (e.g., the Edgar Knecht Trio visit); business forum; write and send press releases to media; coordinate events between Madison Region Economic Partnership (MadREP) and the Wirtschaftsforderung Region Kassel; maintain communication with contacts in Kassel providing regular updates on projects and sending press releases to Kassel; work and coordinate with partner sister-county relationships Hessen-Wisconsin and Madison-Freiburg; design materials that document all past and current Kassel-Dane projects; assist with staffing the Kassel-Dane Sister County Task Force meetings including agenda development, meeting attendance, and recording of minutes.
Education, Experience & Special Requirements
Education, Training and Experience:
Enrollment in an institution of higher education with course work in international relations, communications, journalism, business, or marketing and an interest in working in a governmental setting. Demonstrated skill in writing, as well as any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to six (6) months of clerical experience.
Individuals who meet the minimum qualifications must also pass Microsoft Word, Excel & Language tests with 50% accuracy. (Current Clerk I-II's or Clerk Typist I-II's hired after 08/06/2017 do not have to test. Employees who have been in a Clerk I-II position prior to 08/06/2017 will have to test.)
Special Requirements:
Must have a valid driver's license, or access to reliable personal transportation, or equivalent.
Background Check Statement: Some positions may require a criminal background check which can include fingerprinting due to the nature of the job's responsibilities. Wisconsin's Fair Employment Law, s. 111.31 - 111.395, Wis. Stats., prohibits discrimination because of an arrest or conviction record. Physical and Environmental Work Requirements:
Ability to see and hear within normal ranges with or without adaptive devices, Ability to use hand, arm, wrist and finger motion. Ability to work for prolonged periods on a computer.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in completing assignments. Ability to take initiative and ownership of work. Ability to adhere to deadlines. Ability to relate effectively to and communicate with the County Board members, county personnel, local government officials, community members and elected officials. E?ective oral and written communication skills. Must spell correctly and use grammar properly. Ability to operate word processing software packages on a personal computer. Must have ability to set up and type a variety of letters and reports. Ability to operate standard o?ce equipment. Ability to type neatly and accurately. Experience with a basic video editing software a plus but not required. Must have the ability to operate Zoom software, laptops, and other audio visual equipment.
