Purpose:
· To provide support and assist Philadelphia County psychiatrists in coordinating the behavioral and physical health care needs of program participants.
· To assist psychiatrists with: insurance prior authorization process from completing the forms to notifying the participant when insurance gives the approval; developing and implementing a system to ensure participants have prescribed laboratory tests including how to ensure psychiatrist receives and reviews the results; assist in the
Clozaril clinic and work with other nurses in the clinic to facilitate an efficient flow of information from and to the psychiatrists; special projects to improve efficiency in psychiatric services.
· To network with the community regarding health care needs of participants and provide psychiatric nursing services consistent with physician orders and standard nursing practices.
· To function as a consultant and provide education to participants, non-medical team members and the community.
Supervision Received:
· Receives general direction from the Medical Director or Philadelphia BHS Regional Director. Receives medical direction from the psychiatrist and/or the participants’ treating psychiatrists and/or doctor, when applicable.

Qualifications:
· Board Certified Licensed LPN in the State of PA.
· Prior experience in servicing community mental health facilities and their needs.
· Comprehensive knowledge of psychiatric clinical and psychosocial rehabilitation practices.
· Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; Detail oriented.
· Strong interpersonal skills; Team oriented; Very strong organization and analytical skills
· Must be available for scheduled emergency on-call service.
Scope:
· Frequent talking and listening.
· May require verbal crisis intervention assistance in emergency situations.
· Must be available for local travel and possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
· Scheduling flexibility and possible on-call work are necessary.
· May be required to report to work during emergencies including inclement weather.

1. To provide and assist psychiatrists and team members in coordinating the behavioral and physical health care needs of program participants.
2. Assist in Clozaril Clinic to ensure efficient flow of information from and to the psychiatrists. Work in conjunction with other nurses to complete nursing duties and documentation in the clinic.
3. Develop and monitor systems to ensure participants have prescribed laboratory tests and that results are received and reviewed by the ordering psychiatrist.
4. To consult with and assist team members regarding development and implementation of the health care needs and goals.
5. Negotiate the health care responsibilities of participants with provider agencies.
6. Coordinate with team members’ routine medical, vision, lab, psychiatric and dental appointments. Ensure a mechanism for reporting and follow-up on results. Facilitate communication between PCP (primary care physician) and psychiatrist.
7. Monitor participant's medication. Verify insurance for medication approval by making phone calls and completing authorization requests to appropriate insurance companies and pharmacies as directed by psychiatrist.
8. Complete required documentation. Develop, review, and revise forms, procedures and standards of care according to accepted professional practice.
9. Provide consultation services to community agencies upon request or as needed.
10. Provide educational training services to participants, provider agencies, and non-medical staff, including medication, diagnosis and interventions training classes.
11. Perform other duties and responsibilities as they relate to the overall enhancement of program service delivery.
