This position is a 180 student day position. Complete benefit package as outlined in the Support Staff Handbook.
Basic Function:
The LPN for the Health Suite will be responsible for dispensing medications, providing first aid treatment, and carrying out other health related tasks during periods of time when the nurse for the building is unavailable. The aide will also participate in health screenings and health education programs when needed. The individual will also assist the school nurse and principal with health and other student related activities.
Education and Experience:
Appropriate certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse, or Registered Nurse. Two years experience as a nurse. Current certifications in first aid, CPR, or other areas of need. Computer, typing, and office organization skills preferred. Experience working with children.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Administers medications as prescribed by the students' physician.
- Administers first aid, as needed.
- Administers other medical treatments as prescribed.
- Interprets public and school health information to parents and staff.
- Maintains confidentiality of personally identifiable information.
- Prepares health reports and other student reports as directed by the school nurse.
- Participates in school health screenings within the district.
- Assists the school nurse and teachers with health education programs in the school or district.
- Serves as a substitute aide in emergency situations.
- Carries out other duties as required by the nurse or school principal.
Physical Requirements:
- Sedentary - able to sit for extended periods of time, but may involve walking and standing (periodically as required), is able to lift and carry up to twenty-five pounds (25 lbs.).
- Dexterity - finger movements (computer keyboard, calculator), eye-hand coordination (office equipment, etc.)
- Auditory and Visual Requirements - within normal range, with or without correction.
Other Certifications:
- Relevant criminal histories and child abuse clearances.
- Highly qualified status
- Valid PA Driver's License
- Must exhibit high levels of problem solving skills for overall efficiency and productivity in the school environment.
Mental Demands:
- Must have a steady response to unpredictable situations.
- Must demonstrate independent judgment and discretion in making decisions as well as collaboration skills and interpersonal skills in working with students, staff, and administration.
- Must be able to manage multiple student needs.
