Our Loss Control department seeks a Technical Specialist. This role will serve as a subject matter expert on transportation Loss Control activities and provide technical consultation and evaluation of transportation exposures and controls for associates, agents, policyholders, etc. The Technical Specialist will also assist management and internal business units with evaluating transportation risk potential by analyzing data and incident trends and preparing reports.
Responsibilities for this position may be fulfilled remotely but will require periodic travel to our Headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio.
Salary:The pay range for this position is $70,000 - $150,000 annually. Pay is based on the applicant's education, experience, location, knowledge, skills and abilities. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance.
Be ready to:
- provide technical support for field and headquarter inquiries
- conduct technical risk reviews
- develop and deliver education programs and staff competency training modules
- provide high-level consulting services to policyholders
- review company claims and loss trends to initiate loss mitigation efforts
- relay claims mitigation methods for lessons learned initiatives
- develop and monitor risk evaluation forms and policyholder services
- educate internal and external customers regarding applicable insurance coverages
- facilitate unified risk control within company business units
- research, prepare and deliver reports, forums and seminars about risk controls
- monitor and report on current government standards, consensus standards, trends and best practices
- participate in professional associations, technical committees and specialty groups to stay technically current and report on emerging issues
- make regular and quick travel either by car or airplane while demonstrating effective use of time, planning and expense management
- travel will be required for account servicing and department functions
- travel will also be required approximately 25% of the time
- work in outdoor conditions (cold, rain, snow, heat, etc.)
Be equipped with:
- knowledge of corresponding insurance business lines, insurance policy coverages, transportation regulations and consensus standards
- experience assessing and servicing large auto policyholders
- experience with coaching and mentoring others on transportation related issues
- experience with technical research
- experience with written and verbal technical communications
- the ability to develop and conduct training programs
- initiative to develop new or enhanced methods for Loss Controls

- an undergraduate degree in safety engineering or a related science. Preferred educational disciplines include occupational safety and health, engineering, insurance or risk management.
- professional designations such as CSP, TRIP, CRIS, CRM, PE or ARM (preferred)
- 10 years or more of relevant transportation risk management experience
- direct experience with fleet operations, regulated and non-regulated, and other types of projects that require a high level of professional and engineering criteria outside of the insurance industry (preferred)
