This position is for responsible for the safe transportation of RTP materials, products and other general commodities as directed by RTP Transportation Department. Anticipated 80% of duties would be shuttle/inner city work between RTP buildings and vendors. 20% of duties to be over the road (regional) miles. May occasionally requiring sleeper berth use or motel.
(Monday-Friday) 3pm-11pm
Responsibilities
- Primarily day cab/local truck duties
- Receive and follow dispatch orders/instructions
- Pre and Post trip inspect vehicle at specified intervals
- Hook up and drop trailers as directed by dispatch
- Operate forklift and perform loading and unloading as needed/required
- Drive vehicle on specified routes observing Department of Transportation, State, Federal and RTP Company guidelines safe driving rules and regulations
- Communicate as directed, verbally or in writing
- Pick up and deliver dry van (skid) products, pneumatic bulk product and trash compactor
- Unloading/loading of pneumatic trailers with use of PTO Blower
- Communicate with Customer, Maintenance, Safety, and Dispatch on directions, breakdowns, accidents, product damage, emergencies, and other issues
- Fuel vehicle at approved locations
- Prepare all trip records and DOT logs daily- use ELD’s (electronic log device) as required.
- Participate in Company meetings and quality improvement activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. regularly
- Must be dependable and have excellent attendance
- Must have ability to work with minimal supervision
- Must have ability to make decisions within the scope of the job responsibilities
- Must have a positive attitude
- Must be willing and able to work overtime as needed, up to every other weekend
- Must be willing and able to work in temperature extremes – hot and cold
- Must be able to pass a forklift test
- Must be able to pass a respirator fit test
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English
Education and Experience
- Must have a valid and unrestricted CDL driver’s license
- Must have a satisfactory (as rated by DOT) driving record
- Preferred high school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred forklift experience
- Preferred previous driving experience
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Regularly required to sit for long periods of time as well as look at a computer screen.
- Occasional travel to other locations may be required.
