Title: Leave of Absence Teacher Aide for Special Education Classes - position is availabe immediately until approx. March 2024
Reports to: Director of Special Services, Principal, Assistant Principal, Supervisor, Teacher
Position Summary: The individual must be able to understand the individual needs of the special education child and have a high level of patience and perseverance, the ability to work effectively under the direction of the teacher, demonstrate experience working with children and a strong commitment to providing every student a supportive and structured learning environment. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Must have the required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal alien resident status.
Qualifications:
1. A high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma.
2. A minimum of sixty (60) college credits from an accredited college or university.
Work Year: 10 Months
Duties:
1. Assist the classroom teacher with implementing the daily program.
2. Preview lesson/instructional plan components and prepare accordingly.
3. Assist the classroom teacher with supervision of students and implementation of individual education plans, and individual behavior management plans.
4. Work with the individual student or with small groups of students to assist with the learning content and skills introduced by the teacher, reinforce learning material or skills.
5. Be sensitive to and assist students with special needs and adjust the instructional tasks as needed.
6. Distribute and collect any materials necessary for instruction as needed.
7. Assist the children with preparing for and moving to other classrooms, school activities, or to outside activities.
8. Accompany and assist the student in supervision on approved instructional field trips.
9. Lift items needed to perform the functions of the job.
10. Help young children or children with special needs with grooming, health habits, and toileting activities.
11. Assist the teacher in handling interruptions and emergencies.
12. Assist the teacher in maintaining a healthy learning environment. Duties include, but are not limited to checking student work, supervising testing and makeup work and performing clerical duties related to the student's instructional program.
13. Communicate to the teacher any unusual situations or needs of students.
14. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards at all times.
15. Operate electronic, digital, and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
16. Protect the confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information with legal confines.
17. Perform all other duties assigned by the teacher, Director, or Principal (or designee) that is not otherwise prohibited, as required by law, code, or board policy.
Terms of employment: Salary and work year established by Manchester Regional High School Board of Education.
Evaluation: Evaluated by the Director of Special Services, Principal, Assistant Principal, or Supervisor. Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provision of the Board's policy on evaluation of non-certified staff.
