he LVN I works under the direction and supervision of the Immunization Program Manager to provide comprehensive public health nursing services throughout Region 4/5N.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to coordinate services to perform TVFC/ASN immunization and surveillance duties as assigned. Performs moderate and complex nursing tasks and public health work. The LVN I will be required to administer vaccines to infants, children and adults under the DSHS guidelines and nursing standards in compliance with policies and procedures. Responsible for ensuring proper storage, handling and inventory of the vaccines. Collects data for surveillance investigations and submits reports for vaccine preventable diseases. Knowledge of medications, vaccines, side effects, adverse reactions and techniques of administering medications. Must complete documentation and data entry on a daily basis. Conducts in-services and orientations for TVFC/ASN providers, as needed. Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
1-Provides public health nursing services to clients with a range of simple to complex health needs in Region 4/5N. Will conduct and coordinate immunization clinics for under immunized infants,children and adults in the underserved communities. Works in a clinical setting and travels to administer vaccines according to DSHS guidelines.Follows requirements for eligibility, vaccine administration, documentation and confidentiality. Responsible for administration of vaccines and medications. Completes reports and documentation in accordance with nursing practices.
2-Works with home school organizations, school nurses,parent groups, WIC, local health departments and other entities to empower and educate these groups on the benefits of immunizations. Will schedule,coordinate and provide direct service immunization clinics to targeted groups with unmet needs. Will work with DSHS field offices and assist Public Health Nurses in direct service activities and promotional immunization activities.
3-Complies with vaccine management guidelines.Responsible for assuring the proper handling and storage of vaccine. Maintains accurate vaccine inventory and temperature logs for the refrigerator and freezer.Transfers vaccines as needed,completes biological report and maintains accurate documentation.
4-Other duties as assigned to include but not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. Will be required to work other than normal business hours in order to respond to public health emergencies. May perform a variety of functions during a public health emergency,in accordance with NIMS-compliant ICS management structure and the PHR 4/5N All-Hazards Emergency Management Plan.
Safe operation of either a state owned vehicle or personal vehicle is required to conduct state business, and an acceptable driving record must be maintained in accordance with DSHS Policy OS-3901, Fleet Operations and Management & Procedures and standards developed by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Compliance with DSHS employee immunization policy is required.

Have at least one year of nursing experience.
Licensed to practice as a Vocational Nurse in the State of Texas.
