Licensed Clinical Therapist - Logan & Brigham City
(Licensed Clinical Therapist - DWS)

The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to fill a full-time Licensed Clinical Therapist (LCT) position in the Logan and Brigham City offices. This position will require limited travel to regional employment centers and telehealth services statewide. There is a possibility for a partial telework/remote work schedule.
The primary focus of mental health and substance use disorder interventions is to
assist customers in increasing their level of functioning to facilitate full participation in
employment and/or employment related activities and self-sufficiency.
Principle Duties
The Licensed Clinical Therapy is responsible for the following duties:
  • Performing diagnostic evaluations for the purpose of identifying cultural, social, environmental, psychological, behavioral and situational barriers that would restrict the customer's ability to participate in services provided through DWS. This may include evaluations with children; if children's mental health issues are impacting the parent's ability to participate in services.
  • Performing a number of non-clinical case management duties that support other clinicians across the state. These duties may include administering a substance abuse assessment questionnaire via an online chat system; Acting as the Licensed Clinical Therapist of the Day via an instant messaging system; posting treatment updates, summaries and reports to customers electronic case file; and monitoring cases for progress.
  • Consulting with customers, DWS staff, and outside professionals. Consultations require both clinical and general directions regarding customers barrier resolution. Consultation services will be provided individually or through group staffing.
  • Developing specific psycho­educational group presentations on topics such as coping strategies, stress management, anger management, interpersonal relationships, and others as identified, to customers deemed work ready.
  • Monitoring customer involvement with negotiated interventions.
  • Assisting customers, accessing clinical services in the community and monitoring clinical progress in such services.
  • Acting as a liaison between DWS and professional/community providers. (May include travel to customer homes and statewide community agencies and may also require overnight stays.
  • Providing generalized training for employment center staff regarding the role of LCT's within DWS, how to access LCT services, and what constitutes an appropriate referral.
  • Providing training for employment center staff regarding behavioral patterns that may indicate the potential existence of mental health disorders and general mental health information including specific disorders, behavioral indicators, etc.
  • Providing clinical and/or case management supervision for CSW's or ACHMC's, as required: May be working toward meeting professional licensing requirements in a formal practicum setting.
  • Provide supervision to MSW graduate students, and case management supervision to social work undergraduate students in a formal practicum setting.
  • Providing group, family and individual therapy, as needed, to FEP customers in an effort to increase the customer's level of functioning as it pertains to active participation in employment and/or employment-related activities. May also provide clinical case management supportive services statewide.
  • Assisting with in-service training for LCT's to meet continuing education requirements.
Typical Qualifications:
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required upon entry into position and trainable after
entry into position:
  • Evaluate physical, mental, social or economic needs
  • Administer a substance abuse questionnaire via an online chat system in rotation with other staff
  • Perform duties related to the substance abuse determination process for parents required to participate in this process - to include substance abuse assessment, referring for drug test(s), determining treatment needs and monitoring engagement in treatment
  • Proficient computer skills related to case management software systems and basic word processing and data collection software
  • Understand impacts of poverty on individuals and families
  • Human behavior and performance, mental processes, psychological research, or
  • Assessment, methods, and the assessment and treatment of behavioral, substance use and affective disorders
  • Research methods, techniques, and/or sources of information
  • Apply social work and/or mental health assessment and counseling techniques
  • Information and techniques needed to rehabilitate physical, substance use and mental ailments and to provide career guidance including alternative treatments, rehabilitation
  • Equipment and its proper use, and methods to evaluate treatment effectiveness perform group and/or client therapeutic assessments
  • Compose and produce reports, documents and related material
  • Perform brief individual or group therapeutic techniques
  • Deliver presentations or training using acceptable methods and techniques
  • Communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and
  • Understand information presented in writing
  • Speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally
  • Knowledge of agency programs and local community resources and services

  • Perform individual clinical evaluations and compose clinical recommendations
  • Conduct substance abuse assessments; assess physical, mental, social or economic needs; and able to provide individual and group clinical therapy, as needed
  • Use case management, word processing, data analysis and messaging software systems
  • Deliver presentations or training using acceptable methods and techniques

  • Position may be underfilled as a Caseworker III by a Certified Social Worker (CSW), Associate Clinical Mental Health Counselor (ACMHC) or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) with the understanding that the individual agrees to obtain the required full clinical licensure within the time frames established by DWS. Continued employment when underfilled by a CSW, ACMHC, or AMFT is subject to the attainment of full clinical licensure.
  • Incumbent is required to hold a current driver's license consistent with DWS policy. Driver's license must be current during the full term of employment.

  • Clinical Social Worker, Clinical Mental Health Counselor, or Marriage and Family Therapist licensure in the State of Utah.
  • Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
