Job Summary
State Services for the Blind (SSB) offers tools and training for employment and for helping seniors remain independent and active. As Minnesota's accessible reading source, we also transcribe books and other materials into alternative formats, including audio and braille. We assist Minnesotans who are blind, DeafBlind, losing vision, or who have another disability that makes it difficult to read print.
In this role, you will work to ensure that Minnesotans with visual, physical or reading disabilities have access to high quality library and custom recording services through the Communication Center at State Services for the Blindin St. Paul. MN. This position provides librarian and information support and customer service to the Communication Center.
Duties will include:
  1. Providing circulation services, primarily to audio customers
  2. Providing collection development services
  3. Cataloging Communication Center materials and maintaining catalogs, including the online catalog
  4. Serving as instructional resource consultant and material specialist to SSB and customers; preparing and circulating subject bibliographies of Communication Center and National Library Service materials
  5. Providing other assistance as assigned to ensure effective customer service and office procedures

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
To receive credit for your education and experience, your resume should clearly describe how you meet each minimum and/or preferred qualification listed, including dates of employment.
One (1) year of professional experience in library cataloging and reader advisory experience.
Applicants that meet the above minimum qualification will be further evaluated on the following:
Customer Service experience.
Skill in effective communication sufficient to determine and respond to the informational needs of customers of varied educational levels, disabilities, and backgrounds.
Experience providing technical assistance in person, by email, telephone, and virtually.
Database administrationexperience.
Basic computer skills and experience with software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
Preferred Qualifications
Training, education, or experience with providing library services, especially related to serving individuals who have a disability that prevents use of traditional print materials.
Professional experience as a librarian with job responsibilities in one the following: 1) perform, plan and/or administer Library/Information services; 2) use cataloging and circulation software; 3) direct or provide reference services; 4) develop library policy; 5) library acquisitions and collection development; 6) circulation; and 7) budgeting.
