THE POSITION:

The City of Hayward is excited to announce its recruitment for the part-time positions of Library Page to work at the Public Library or related facilities within the Library Services Department. Library Pages work 12 to 15 hours per week, including evenings and weekends. Both adults and students are encouraged to apply.

This is the entry level class of the Library Page series. Incumbents typically have little related work experience and work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. This class is distinguished from the Senior Library Page in that the latter performs clerical procedures of moderate difficulty and proves lead direction and on-the-job training to Library Pages. The Senior Library Page also assigns and schedules Library Pages to perform simple, routine projects and checks to ensure their completion. Additionally, the Senior Library Page also appraises quality and quantity of the work output of Library Pages.


Essential Duties

What you will do:

Shelves books, periodicals, videos, cassettes, magazines and reference material in alphabetical or numerical order.

Empties book return box and checks in library material on the computer.

Performs general clerical tasks such as typing, copying, making posters and reviewing shelved material to ensure numerical and alphabetical order.

Assists in library programs.

Retrieves magazines and other library materials upon request.

Prepares library material for security system.

Delivers and distributes books and runs errands.

Cleans and mends books.

Assists in securing library at closing time.

Assists customers in Technology Center.

May drive City vehicles to deliver and pick up supplies, books and mail.

Performs related work as necessary.

Experience: None

Education: Enrollment in or graduation from high school or equivalent.

License: Special assignments require possession and maintenance of a valid California Class C Driver's License.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The examination process will result in a ranked eligible register of candidates for hiring consideration by the department derived from any of the exam processes mentioned above.
Department Interviews - Actual hire depends on success in the departmental selection process. Include specific or approximate dates here.
Candidates under final consideration for employment with the City should expect to undergo an employment background/reference check that may include, but is not limited to: employment history verification, medical evaluation, confirmation of educational credentials and degrees, licenses including driver's license, registrations, certificates, and other credentials as part of the appointment process. Some positions, depending on the nature of the work, also require a credit check and a review of Summary Criminal History obtained from the State Department of Justice through Live Scan Fingerprinting.
