JOB DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Works under the supervision of the Facilities Coordinator.
Responsible for maintaining the goals, standards and objectives of the Public Library.
Coordinates with Facilities Coordinator on work schedules to ensure timely and effective completion of maintenance and care of buildings and offices.
Maintain and monitors scheduling and approving employee leave. Handles commendation and discipline of custodial employees.
Keeps custodial employees informed of change in policies and procedures.
Communicates with Facilities Coordinator on issues of staff attendance and performance.
Must be available to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Trains and supervises custodial staff as needed.
Responsible for security of assigned locations.
Inspects and maintains assigned custodial equipment and small tools.
Opens and closes facilities as needed.
Cleans and maintains Library and related facilities, including changing light bulbs and fluorescent tubes; sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, shampooing, steam cleaning, striping, waxing polishing and buffing floors, carpets and furniture; washes windows, walls, metal trim and woodwork.
Keeps records as required by the Library.
Operates City vehicles to transport equipment and run errands.
Attendance at work is an essential function of this position.
Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Assists in training staff in proper chemical and equipment usage and maintenance.
Acts as Facilities Coordinator in his absence.
May serve on various employee committees, as required and assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
A pre-employment physical and/or drug/alcohol test is required for this position
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and a minimum of one (1) year experience in a custodial related field.
Valid driver's license required with acceptable driving record for past three years.
Working knowledge of equipment, materials and supplies used in building maintenance.
Working knowledge of equipment and supplies used for minor repairs.
Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
Ability to follow verbal and or written instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other City personnel and the public.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:
Floor buffers and waxers, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, floor scrubbers, wet/dry vacuum cleaners, mops, brooms, dusting equipment, miscellaneous small hand tools including screw drivers, hammers, drills, and other small electric hand tools and motor vehicles.
