COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
The City of Alameda is pursuing an experienced library executive administrator with innovative and strategic thinking, collaborate community engagement, and excellent problem-solving and leadership skills to lead the Alameda Free Library as the next Director.
The Library holds a special place with Alameda residents and is a critical service and community hub with a continued tradition of excellence and embracing innovation through its three branches and extensive online resources. Library staff includes 22 full-time and 40 part-time as well as volunteers who serve over 30,000 people annually at the library and branches with 55,000 items lent electronically and 4,600 programs offered to over 26,000 people. The annual budget is $6 million and includes managing grants and donations. The Director coordinates across City departments and maintains strong relationships with the Friends of Alameda Free Library, community organizations, stakeholders, school district and other agencies. The Library is developing a closer collaboration with the Alameda Museum and manages its agreement with the City. The department also supports the City Council appointed Library Board.
The Library Director will report to the Assistant City Manager and work with an experienced, cohesive Executive Team. The Director will lead the Library in its ongoing mission of inclusivity, accessibility, and community involvement by fostering individual and community enrichment, resourcefulness, and connection.
The next Library Director will explore and manage expansion opportunities including a new potential Alameda Point branch library and tool and seed lending library. With a broad range of resources and programs both in person and in the virtual space, the Library Director will closely engage with Department staff to empower them to further the Library's programs and initiatives to serve Alameda's diverse interests, manage priorities, policies and direction, develop and oversee the department budget, and be a leader in library services for all who live, work, play and learn in Alameda.
