Position Title
Library Assistant Campus Cranford Department Libraries Full-time, Part-time, Adjunct Part Time Exempt or Non-Exempt Non-Exempt Regular,Temporary, or Grant Regular General Description
Assists library users with circulation, reserves, periodicals, interlibrary loans, photocopying services, and general information regarding the libraries.
Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities
Provides users with information regarding library hours, services, and policies and procedures, and directional questions and other college information.
Charges and discharges library materials to patrons
Handles loans between libraries through Interlibrary Loan ( ILL).
Sets up and maintains reserves on the automated library system
Participates in planning process for library events or programs
Prepares correspondence and reports related to circulation functions.
Operates all library equipment to assist users
Organizes and reshelves returned items including shelf-reading and inventory
Performs tasks such as answering phone calls and organizing files
Helps users with scanner and photocopy equipment and refills paper, as needed.
Assists with special projects, as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned
Education Requirements
Associate degree or higher required.
Experience
Experience working in a library or related setting, preferred.
Competencies and Skills Required
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Experience with Microsoft Office including spreadsheet software such as Excel.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position's duties are normally performed in a typical interior/residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Some travel required

Terms of Employment
Part-time hours not to exceed 25 hours per week. Must be able to work at any of all three campus libraries. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
