Library Aide

Janitorial Duties (Cleaning)

The primary focus of this Library Aide position is to keep all portions of the Amherst Library branch clean; whatever that may entail. Vacuuming, dusting, mopping, and removing trash are examples of the type of work to be performed.

Page Duties

Paging primarily consist of shelving and gathering materials. They also include keeping the library organized and assisting with the physical processing of library materials.

Substitute Desk Assistant Duties (Customer Service)

A Library Aide may periodically assist customers at the desk as needed, especially when staffing is short. The Library Aide may also occasionally have the opportunity to substitute on the service desk to work additional hours, up to 29 hours per week.

Special Projects

Full time staff members may ask the Library Aides to complete special projects independently or in collaboration, as needed.

Experience Requirements

Requires 2 years of experience working in customer service, janitorial services, and/or a public library; or completion of an Associate’s degree.

Physical Requirements

· This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and the occasional use of up to 50 pounds of force.

· Requires using hands to type, write, handle, feel, push, and lift.

· This work regularly requires a mix of sitting, standing, and walking.

· Requires both verbal and written communication with the general public.

· This work has standard vision requirements.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $14.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 per week

Schedule:

• 4 hour shift
• Weekends as needed
