DESCRIPTION:
Councilmember Dr. Ricks-Oddie is recruiting a Legislative Scheduler (Legislative Aide Non-Career) who is self-motivated, detailed, and a team player who cares about District 9 and the city of Long Beach. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, this role involves supporting office operations, including scheduling, communications, casework, and coordinating district events.
The District 9 team emphasizes diligence, flexibility, and collaboration to foster a thriving City of Long Beach. Candidates should exhibit a team-focused mindset, strong work ethic, follow-through, and task management skills. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends is required.
ABOUT COUNCILMEMBER RICKS-ODDIE:
Councilmember Dr. Ricks-Oddie was elected to the Long Beach City Council in November 2022. She is a statistician by profession and an epidemiologist by trade. For over a decade Councilmember Dr. Ricks-Oddie has lived with her husband Keith and their two children in the Deforest Park Neighborhood in North Long Beach. She has spent that time practicing civic leadership in Long Beach, serving on the DeForest Park Neighborhood Association Board, North Long Beach Neighborhood Alliance, Uptown Property and Business Improvement District, Citizens Police Complaint Commission, and the Long Beach Planning Commission as chair.
Councilmember Dr. Ricks-Oddie is focused on quality-of-life priorities that protect our residents, strengthen our neighborhoods, and help our community thrive. Prior to serving as councilmember, she helped lead the cities Health Equity outreach and focus groups associated with Framework for Racial Reconciliation that is currently administered through the Long Beach Office of Equity.
Manage and maintain calendar for Council District 9, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
Serve as the primary point of contact for scheduling inquiries and requests, responding promptly and professionally.
Communicate schedule changes and updates to relevant parties in a timely manner.
Collaborate with other team members to streamline scheduling processes and improve efficiency.
Prepare meeting materials, agendas, and briefing documents as needed.
Monitor legislative deadlines and assist in prioritizing tasks to meet legislative goals.
Maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive information.
Respond to inquiries and requests from community members and stakeholders in a timely and professional manner.
Prepare written materials, including newsletters, press releases, and social media posts, to communicate with community members and stakeholders.
Assist in planning, organizing, and executing community outreach programs, events, and initiatives.
Act as a liaison between the organization and community stakeholders, including residents, local businesses, government officials, and nonprofit organizations.
Coordinate logistics for community events, such as securing venues, arranging catering, and managing event promotion.
Conduct research on community issues, needs, and trends to inform the development of outreach strategies and initiatives.
Maintain databases of community contacts, partners, and resources.
Represent the Council District 9 office at events and engagements.
Other duties as assigned
Requirements to file:
High school diploma or equivalency is required.
Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as needed.
Minimum of (2) years' experience working with a culturally and ethnically diverse constituency for either a non-profit or government agency.
A valid California Driver License is required and reliable transportation to successfully fulfill the duties of the position.
Desirable Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university OR 4 years of equivalent experience in communications, political science, public policy or related field
Experience with policy analysis and research
Successful candidates will demonstrate:

Prioritize multiple assignments and execute tasks in a timely manner

Excellent verbal and written communication.
A strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to manage complex tasks and prioritize competing demands to meet deadlines.

This position is an exempt, at-will position. The incumbent will not accrue any civil service tenure or contractual employment rights in such position. The Legislative Aide is appointed by, and serves at the pleasure of the Council Office, and may be removed without cause.
