The range for this role is $78,000 - $95,000
Actual base pay will be determined based on a successful candidate's work location, skills/abilities, experience, and education. This role includes opportunity to receive an annual bonus target of 10% of annual eligible earnings. Actual bonus amounts are determined by length of time in role, individual performance, and organizational performance.
Interested applicants must be willing and able to work onsite at least 3 times per week in our Melbourne, FL office.

The Job
The Legal Counsel provides general legal support and advice for Christian Care Ministry ("CCM"). We are looking for a proactive lawyer who wants to get un-unstuck from process and routine - and can think outside the box and ideate within an organization that is on the move and growing! The Legal Counsel works closely with the Chief Legal Counsel to provide timely and thoughtful Legal Counsel to executives and staff in support of Ministry programs and other activities, and ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Review, prepare, edit, and execute a variety of contracts and other agreements
- Prepare legal communications
- Conduct legal research and analyze legal issues that affect Christian Care Ministry and its activities at the local, state, federal, and international levels; and prepare findings, recommendations, templates, and plans to effectively advise the Ministry
- Stay up to date with, and advise staff on laws applicable to nonprofit entities, healthcare sharing ministries, association of churches, IRS lobbying, and the like
- Manage legal projects and collaborate with other teams on organization-wide projects
- Conduct data collection/analysis of government affairs matters -- including administrative work, research, grassroots support, and more
- Collect and support various annual state reporting submissions
- Provide legal support to compliance audits/inquiries
- Develop and implement compliance-monitoring, risk assessment, reporting, testing, and tracking
- Train and educate business leaders on evolving compliance-related subjects
- Contribute to the exercise and expression of Christian Care Ministry's Christian beliefs
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Essential Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret legal documents
- Speak effectively with members, providers, and/or associates of the organization
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
- Advanced knowledge in employment, benefits, tax, and business structures
- Knowledge of non-profit organization law
- Knowledge of banking or financial institution laws and regulations would be a plus
- Customer service-oriented
- Ability to devise and implement creative legal solutions in a complex nonprofit setting
Education and/or Experience
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and currently licensed to practice law in at least one state required
- License in Florida within 12 months of hire through examination, reciprocity, or registered as in-house counsel required
- Working knowledge of the legal rules that apply to tax-exempt organizations along with strong generalist experience at a law firm or in-house working for a non-profit entity preferred
- A demonstrated commitment to nonprofits is highly desirable
