Job description

Our Fort Lauderdale office is seeking an attentive, detail-oriented, and self-motivated individual for a litigation Legal Assistant/Paralegal. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of five years of experience performing a range of advanced administrative, legal and paralegal support to our attorneys, primarily in the field of discovery and trial. This is a hybrid role, which means you will work both remotely and in-office, but you may have to be present in the office full-time during trials. Occasionally, you may need to travel for work, and you should be prepared to work overtime if necessary. Qualified candidates must demonstrate professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, initiative, flexibility, organizational skills, client service skills and the ability to be proactive. Qualified candidates must also possess mastery of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as electronic document management systems. The ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on business needs is essential. The Paralegals are integral members of our firm who are responsible for ensuring our clients receive the best legal service possible. Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the attorney calendar to ensure all appearances are prepared for, and deadlines are met such as scheduling and calendaring of Hearings, Depositions, Conferences, Mediations, etc.
  • Provide attorney support by assisting with legal research; drafting pleadings, correspondence, and other documents; as well as maintaining client files
  • Investigate facts to help in the negotiation of legal disputes
  • Prepare attorneys for hearings
  • File court documents electronically

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A minimum of five years legal experience
  • Excellent communication skills – written and oral with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Detail and Client-service oriented
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook with aptitude to learn other systems/programs
  • Experience with the discovery process
  • Experience e-filing in both Florida Courts and federal courts a plus.
  • Able to interact with clients regularly, attorneys, and the courts in a Professional manner
  • Able to communicate with opposing counsel, the court system, and other administrative agencies
  • Advanced Adobe professional and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience and proficiency in personal time-entry - Enters billable time into CMS software on a daily basis. Meeting a minimum billing requirement of 100 hours per month (1200 per year). This requirement is not reduced by any paid or unpaid time off, mandatory training, or the performance of any non-billable functions. Such time off, training, or performance of non-billable functions are not counted toward the minimum billing requirement. (Work may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position and to meet financial goal requirements.)
  • Performs non-billable functions, including answering phones when necessary
  • Remains flexible and open to requests for support or assistance outside of the scope of this job description and to other duties as directed by the Management team.
  • Trial experience preferred.
  • Experience with Cosmolex Case Management Software a plus
  • FLA Registered Paralegal/Nala Certified Paralegal a plus but not required. Five (5) years of experience of working in a law firm in a Legal Assistant/Paralegal role or having a JD degree can be substituted for the certification or degree
  • Bi-lingual a plus
