Job Description
A law firm in New Jersey is actively seeking an experienced and versatile professional to join their staff as their new Legal Assistant.
Responsibilities:
The Legal Assistant will:
- Transcribe and proofread legal documents, memos, and correspondence
- Adeptly e-file documents with the court
- Process third party and vendor invoices
- Open mail and scan to appropriate electronic file
- Scan, copy and fax legal documents in a timely manner
- Answer phone calls, take notes/messages and redirect calls when appropriate
- Schedule and confirm meetings as needed
- Send out trial notices to client, expert, witnesses and update/maintain trial calendar
- Prepare and serve subpoena
- Facilitate the meeting of deadlines by keeping multiple agendas and provide timely reminders to the Attorney
- Keep track of all experts in a particular case
- Handle follow-ups (for records, subpoenaed info, meetings, expert reports, etc.)
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience as a Legal Secretary / Assistant in plaintiff personal injury firm.
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Experience with legal documents and legal terminology
- Strong understanding of litigation management software systems
- Experience using dictation and transcription software
- Knowledge of online court filing systems
- Microsoft Office proficient
- Solid problem solving and time management skills
- Great interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong attention to detail
- Highly organized
Desired Skills:
- Working knowledge of Smart Advocate
- Familiarity with Medical terminology
