FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Medgar Evers College (MEC), a nationally recognized leader in urban-serving education, is one of twenty-three colleges within the City University of New York (CUNY) System. Named for the late civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers (1925-1963), the College's mission is to develop and maintain high quality, professional, career-oriented undergraduate degree programs in the context of liberal education. Located in Central Brooklyn, MEC a comprehensive college was established in 1970 with a mandate to meet the educational and social needs of the Central Brooklyn community.
The Department of Physics and Computer Science is located in a state-of-the-art, $247 million School of Science building with state-of-the-art smart classrooms, teaching labs and research modules. The school has two core research facilities- Cellular, Molecular and Advanced Imaging, and Chemical Analysis. These core facilities are equipped with high-end equipment including, SEM, Confocal, Zeiss Axioimager, inverted fluorescence and Atomic Force Research Microscopes, Ultracentrifuges, DNA Sequencer, Flow Cytometer, HPLC, GC-MS, NMR, ICP-OES, FT-IR and Raman, X-ray Diffractometer, UV-VIS-NIR Spectrometer, D.S. Calorimeter, D.T. Analyzer, Kodak Image Station, and mammalian cell culture facilities.
The facilities of the Physics and Computer Science Department include UNIX Computer Science Lab, nanosatellite lab, satellite ground station, several Computer Science research labs, and a Remote Sensing Lab. The PCS Department is housed in the state-of-the-art Science building with classrooms well equipped for in person and remote learning. Members of PCS maintain ongoing research collaborations with external institutions including NASA and ties with industry partners including Google where some students have done internships and some faculty have done summer residencies, and also the CUNY 2X Tech program funded by New York City's Small Business Services, through which students have internship opportunities.
The Department of Physics and Computer Science (PCS) seeks applicants for a tenure-track (Certificate of Continuous Employment) lecturer position in Computer Science. The candidate will be required to teach undergraduate Computer Science courses, mentor students, and assist in the development of innovative undergraduate courses in cyber security, robotics, data science, or other areas of Computer Science with growing opportunities. The candidate will also share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
Lecturers at the City University of New York have an annual workload of 24 hours (6-8 courses) per year. The title of Lecturer at the City University of New York is a “tenure-bearing (Certificate of Continuous Employment) title used for full-time members of the faculty who are hired to teach and perform faculty functions, but do not have a research commitment” (PSC CUNY Contract, Article 11, section 11.1: https://psc-cuny.org/contract/article-11-classification-titles).
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in area(s) of expertise, and the ability to teach successfully.
Candidates are required to have a M.S. degree or higher in area(s) of experience. Also required are excellent communication skills and the ability to teach successfully. Expertise in Data Science or Computer Security/Cyber Security would be a plus, but we will consider strong candidates in any field of Computer Science.
COMPENSATION
Salary is commesurate with education and experience
$67,684-$76,870
