The Department of Communication and Media Studies at California State University is accepting applications for Fall 2024. Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience. Seeking a lecturer to teach an upper-division course in Communication and Gender (COMM 435).

CATALOG COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Introduction to a number of conceptual and theoretical problematics that have a bearing on the study of Communication and its relevance to questions of gender. Explores differences between males and females with respect to communication styles, the cultural motivations for these differences, how they are reproduced in ongoing socialization experiences, their social and political implications, and the stratagems speakers deploy in the course of exploiting, bridging, negotiating, or overcoming such differences.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field;
- Experience with and demonstrated effectiveness with in-person classroom instruction and with Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard;
- Per the California State University’s Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A doctorate in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field;
- Pertinent expertise to teach courses in our Communication/Media Studies programs
- Higher education teaching experience with minimum of 1 year as teacher of record pertinent to subject area
- Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusivity, and/or intercultural competence with diverse groups in relation to teaching.
SALARY COMMENSURATE WITH DEGREE LEVEL AND EXPERIENCE
- Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,007 - $8,000 per full-time month
- CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,007 - $12,594 per full-time month
