POSITION DESCRIPTION

The School of Education at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a pool of primarily part-time lecturers, should an opening arise, across several programs: Undergraduate, Teacher Credential, and Doctorates in Education (PhD) and Educational Leadership (EdD). The salary and appointment level is commensurate with experience. Screening of applicants is ongoing and will continue as needed. The number of positions varies each year. These are quarterly positions and are for the quarter of appointment only in most cases (exceptions being for two- or three-quarter sequences). Reappointment, if any, is based solely on instructional need. Each lecturer must undergo an annual review, the outcome of which must be positive before a lecturer can be considered for reappointment. Candidates should be competent to conduct instruction independently and without supervision, as well as to supervise and work collaboratively with teaching assistants assigned to their courses (if any). Lecturers will also receive training in UC Davis’ course management system and are expected to calculate and enter grades for their students. Specific qualification requirements for individual programs are listed below.

Undergraduate Program Lecturers:

  • Master's degree or completion of 30 units of graduate work
  • Coursework or other scholarly preparation relevant to the course assigned
  • Minimum of one year of teaching experience in higher education (including any time served as a teaching assistant)

Teacher Credential Program Lecturers:

  • Master's degree or completion of 30 units of graduate work
  • Coursework or other scholarly preparation relevant to the course assigned
  • Preferred – teaching experience in K-12 public schools

Capitol Area North Doctorate in Educational Leadership (CANDEL) Lecturers:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in Education, Human Resources, Law, or other related field
  • Coursework, other scholarly preparation, and/or career experience relevant to the course assigned
  • Preferred – leadership experience in K-12, higher education, or public/private sector

PhD in Education Lecturers:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) in field relevant to course coverage (Education, Psychology, Linguistics, Psychometrics, Statistics, etc.)
  • Coursework or other scholarly preparation relevant to the course assigned
  • Preferred – teaching experience in higher education (including experience as a Teaching Assistant)

Note that positions are typically filled in spring/summer for the following academic year, but openings may occur throughout the year and can be filled as needed from applications in this pool. Qualified applicants will be identified from this pool when needs arise; you are encouraged to apply immediately to ensure consideration. Since courses vary in terms of content and emphasis, being explicit in your cover letter about your areas of expertise will help to ensure you are considered to teach in those areas.

When submitting an application, please indicate which program(s) you are applying for, and also specify in your cover letter how you meet the above qualifications for the position(s).
