(SPSCC) seeks highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Learning Resource Center Administrator - Writing Center.
The Learning Resource Center Administrator - Writing Center reports to the Dean of Academic Success Programs and is responsible for developing and leading a program of inclusive and meaningful training for student tutors across all disciplines (writing, math, science, humanities, etc.) and management of a library-based Writing Center that benefits student learning. The Writing Center is one of two tutoring centers located on the SPSCC campus, both of which are housed on the main campus. The Learning Resource Center Administrator - Writing Center is expected to exercise initiative, independence, and discretion in both the development of student tutor training curriculum and the administration and daily operation of the Writing Center. The position is 1.0 FTE, or 40 hours per week, and is an exempt, union represented position.

What You'll Do
As the Writing Center Administrator:
  • Promote and participate in the development of a marketing and promotional campaign for the newly relocated Writing Center.
  • Organize the daily operation of the Writing Center including support for faculty, student, and tutor needs. Develop protocols and procedures to ensure efficient and safe center operations.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings.
  • Maintain the Writing Center's web presence and other electronic media to connect the center's resources accurately and efficiently to all students.
  • Identify, recruit, select and hire part-time classified and student tutors.
  • Administer the online appointment scheduling system to track tutoring center use for assessment and planning purposes. Train faculty, staff, and tutors in its use.
  • Collaborate with SPSCC Library staff to establish space policies that foster an inclusive, active, and shared learning space that meets the needs of all stakeholders.
  • Coordinate, schedule and conduct peer-led study group sessions, as appropriate.
  • Participate in the coordination of the e-Tutoring program and monitor student use.
  • Coordinate and manage tutoring services based on specific funding sources, such as Perkins grant funding.
  • Develop work schedules for student and non-student employees.
  • Attend new student orientations, open houses, and recruitment events as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
As the Tutor Training Coordinator:
  • Establish and maintain a holistic tutor-training program that supports both tutors and students.
  • Remain up to date on current best practices within the field of tutoring for community college environments, including participating in continuing education and training activities that support this work.
  • Collaborate with SPSCC teaching faculty to maintain and expand the embedded writing tutor program in identified courses as well as develop tutor training materials/handouts for all disciplines served by the two tutoring centers at SPSCC.
  • Collaborate with the Learning ResourcesCenter Administrator - Quantitative Learning Center to ensure student tutor training materials are relevant, timely, and useful.
  • Collaborate with the other LRC administrator to provide a unified tutor orientation and onboarding.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications You Possess
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in English, Communication Studies, or other closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of tutoring pedagogies and methodologies.
  • Experience directing or coordinating a tutoring program in a post-secondary setting.
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills and knowledge of anti-racist writing strategies
  • Leadership experience collaborating with underrepresented, marginalized communities.
