Learning Experience Designer (Academic Coordinator)
BARGAINING UNIT/NON-UNIT: MCCC
ANTICIPATED START DATE: ASAP
SALARY RANGE: Grade 6. Academic Coordinator. Salary range for this pay grade is $70,120 - $100,531. Actual salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the MCCC collective bargaining agreement provisions and candidates are therefore advised that it is unlikely the offered salary will be at or near the top of the range.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Reporting to the Director of Teaching and Learning Innovation, The Learning Experience Designer (LED) operates within the Teaching and Learning Innovation Center (TLIC), offering comprehensive guidance and support for a diverse range of teaching and learning activities across the college. Collaborating with the VP of IT, the Director, TLIC staff, and the TLIC Steering Committee, the LED spearheads the development and implementation of innovative teaching initiatives in online, hybrid, and in-person environments, aligning seamlessly with the Center's vision.
Engaging in all facets of technology-rich teaching and learning, the LED actively contributes to the management of the learning management system. This role involves creating instructional materials, providing support, and conducting training sessions for faculty and staff, ensuring the development of high-quality materials across all subject areas, including both credit and non-credit workshops and courses. Additionally, the Learning Experience Designer plays a pivotal role in coordinating projects, sharing best practices, contributing to the creation of shared training materials and workshops, and actively participating in the continuous enhancement of technology-enhanced teaching and learning across all settings at GCC.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works with faculty and staff to enhance Learning Experiences in online, hybrid, and in-person courses, workshops, and activities.
- Collaborates with subject matter experts and other professionals throughout the college to analyze instructional goals, structure learning activities, and assessments, to ensure high-quality Learning Experiences delivered by faculty and professional staff.
- Promotes open education resources and other initiatives that promote equity
- Provides training and support for the development of high-quality accessible learning materials, through the lens of equity practices.
- Supports the integration of new teaching technologies; and assists in the adaptation of innovative teaching and assessment strategies.
- Promotes quality standards for online learning and technology-enhanced instruction.
- Supports continuous improvement and quality assurance by assisting in the development and implementation of training experiences for faculty and staff.
- Uses data to understand and improve the student experience.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports and assists in efforts to improve the learning management system to support teaching and learning.
- Contributes to high-quality course design guidelines and initiatives at the college.
- Lead and participates in the professional development activities of the Teaching and Learning Innovation Center.
- Responds to help tickets and other requests for assistance with Moodle
- Help to enhance the excellence of the brand, the reputation, and the vision for the TLIC
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE*:
- Master's Degree in Education, Education Administration, Instructional Design, Learning Technologies, Liberal Arts, or closely related field.
- Three (3) years of experience and/or training involving the area of assignment, which may include education, program/project management, curriculum development, instructional design, organizational development, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Prior staff development/teaching experience.
- Proven experience with collaboration with IT and teaching staff.
- Learning management system proficiency, preferably Moodle.
- Sufficient proficiency with Google Workspaces and Microsoft Office on multiple systems.
- Knowledge of instructional design, multimedia production, and WCAG 2.1 guidelines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven ability to apply adult learning theory to program development.
- Demonstrated experience creating inclusive Learning Experiences.
