ABOUT ATLANTA GLOW

Founded in 2014, Atlanta Growing Leadership Of Women (GLOW)'s mission is to encourage, educate and equip young, low-income women to be thriving, self-sustaining leaders and effective agents of economic growth within their communities. Atlanta GLOW is a faith-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves low-income young women and/or young women of color, ages 14-25, by providing mentoring, leadership development, and job and life skills training to ignite each young woman’s potential and equip her with the tools to take action and thrive in her home, school, workplace and community.

POSITION SUMMARY

As an extension of Atlanta GLOW's Leadership Education/Equity and Advancement Program (LEAP) and Work Ready initiative, Atlanta GLOW is seeking to identify Opportunity Youth (defined as young people ages 16-24 who are disconnected from school and/or work) who lack experience in the workforce to provide them paid, on-the-job learning experiences. Through our six (6) month skills training and apprenticeship program, these youth will receive career mentoring and skills-based training in a variety of interest-led topics such as marketing, project management, IT support, data analytics, cybersecurity and more. To enhance apprentices' confidence and self-efficacy, they will also receive soft skills training and leadership development opportunities as they collaborate alongside the Atlanta GLOW team supporting the daily implementation of our programs and services. This is a unique earn and learn experience where our apprentices have the opportunity to earn an industry-recognized credential while learning valuable skills, exploring career options, clarifying their goals, and networking for the future.

The apprenticeship is a temporary, grant-funded position (12 Hours/Week) providing part-time employment with Atlanta GLOW for up to a maximum of six (6) months as they complete a credential and seek other gainful employment. The standard working hours for this position are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm Eastern Standard Time. This position allows for telecommuting, with in person work required once per week to assist staff in facilitating community outreach, family engagement, program sessions, and training events at our Marietta Square office/classroom location and in our target communities.

There are multiple apprenticeship roles available with an anticipated start date of December 4, 2023.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The apprentice will assist the Atlanta GLOW team in the ongoing implementation of youth development programs by supporting administrative and programmatic activities. These duties may include:

    • Engaging in self-paced, online learning with the goal of completing an industry-recognized credential within six (6) months (Note: the credentialing is supported and funded by Atlanta GLOW).
    • Participating in regular career mentoring, job shadowing and networking to promote career exploration and development.
    • Assisting staff in maintaining accurate records of program participation and youth outcomes.
    • Completing research, data entry, data analysis and evaluation to support performance measurement and program improvements.
    • Creating graphics, writing communications, and supporting social media management and newsletter development.
    • Helping maintain the Atlanta GLOW office including performing inventory tracking and device management.
    • Assisting staff in the facilitation of workshops and events (e.g., set up/break down, attendance, food pick ups, note taking).
    • Supporting mailings of communications including member welcome kits, special campaigns and more.
    • Completing small projects and assignments which support the overall mission and purpose of the organization.
    • Performing Quality Assurance (QA) reviews of team deliverables to maintain a standard of high-quality and excellence.
    • Participating in biweekly team meetings and one-on-one supervisory meetings.
    • Other entry-level tasks as needed by the organization.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

This is an extraordinary entry-level opportunity for an individual who is passionate about Atlanta GLOW’s mission and who has an interest in learning more about nonprofits, community development, women's empowerment, and/or leadership. While there is no job experience required, Atlanta GLOW desires to work with individuals who are highly organized, self-motivated, resourceful, and detail-oriented and who can follow deadlines, juggle multiple tasks, take initiative, and manage their own workload. As our environment is highly collaborative, we also require individuals with the ability to communicate in a professional manner, who carry a positive attitude and possess good listening skills. Close proximity to Marietta, Georgia and/or Cobb County will also be a strong consideration.

No phone calls, emails or office visits please. Atlanta GLOW will contact applicants directly if selected for an interview.
