About the role:
We're looking for a Lead Underwriter who can contribute independently as well as work effectively with a team that's launching a modern commercial insurance product from the ground up! As Lead Underwriter, you'll be tasked with defining Nirvana's strategic entry into a new customer segment and collaborating across a number of key groups within Nirvana's organization. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to both leverage their experience in the underwriting space and stretch themselves to find creative solutions to novel and complex problems.

What you'll do:
- Be a foundational driver of results for an emerging insurance product
- Collaborate with the Product and Engineering groups on a new segment within the transportation space
- Evaluate and price new and renewal commercial Transportation business using underwriting best practices coupled with modern tools and insights
- Work closely with key agency partners to achieve production and profitability goals
About you:
- 5+ years of property/casualty underwriting experience in the Transportation space.
- Proven track record of developing new tools, processes, or guidelines based on sound research and critical thinking a plus
- Insurance certification (CPCU, ARM, etc.) a plus
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to present to internal and external leadership.
- Thorough critical thinker who isn't afraid to make decisions
- Self-starter who independently seeks out opportunities to learn and succeed
- Bias-to-action - you're not afraid to get your hands dirty and stretch yourself
- Owner mentality - take accountability for your actions and results
- Successfully able to work in high-growth and ambiguous start-up environments
