Job Description
The Fairmont Spanish Program delivers highly engaging Spanish classes to the students. The Spanish lessons involve the children in music, songs, dance, games, storytelling, cultural activities and more. The Spanish teacher is fluent in the Spanish language. The Spanish teacher must be energetic and hard-working and comfortable with a variety of ages. Fairmont believes students should be global citizens and active members of our local communities, linguistically and culturally, which necessitates students being bilingual and culturally-literate in Spanish.
Qualifications
- At least 12 child development units
- Early Childhood/Elementary teaching credential, preferred
- Native Spanish Speaker. Bilingual Proficiency (Preferably experience working in a dual language environment)
- Experience with young children. Some experience as a lead teacher working with various age groups.
- Demonstrates strong communication (written and oral) and organizational skills.
- Demonstrates team building and team management skills.
- Contributing to the leadership and management of the school.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides Spanish language instruction for each age group.
- Develop lessons that teach the fundamentals of the Spanish Language, including vocabulary and conversational Spanish.
- Develop lessons incorporating music, dance, literature, art, and more.
- Develop ease and confidence with reading and writing skills.
- Encourage students’ integration of language learning across their daily academic experience . Introduce students to the joys and beauty of language learning.
- Develops students to be competent language and culture learners.
- Implement various activities and programs that will cater to the varying intellectual levels of the students.
- Assess and evaluate the progress of each student in Spanish language related to reading, writing, and aural comprehension and speaking.
Teaching and Learning Responsibilities Incorporating IB Philosophy and Concepts
- Develop a learning environment to reflect best practices in early childhood education
- Work with colleagues to ensure continuity and progression in the curriculum
- Ensure the safety of all children in our program.
- Implement a wide variety of strategies to meet the needs of all students.
- Ensure that each family receives an opportunity to build strong relationships with the teaching staff.
- Provide a classroom environment that encourages parent participation.
- Create weekly plans using the PYP planner and concepts.
- Provide a developmentally appropriate classroom environment that reflects the children's learning and growth.
