Job description

TrueCar is a leading automotive digital marketplace and we are on a mission to make car buying and selling easy, transparent and efficient. We work to empower consumers with data, and foster connections with our network of Certified Dealers who share our belief that truth, transparency and fairness are the foundation to a great experience. We forge partnerships to power car buying programs for some of America's most trusted brands. And we continually innovate to provide useful tools, research, market context and pricing transparency to help consumers feel empowered and confident all throughout their journey.

As consumers' priorities and shopping habits shifted, so did we. We are building a modern day marketplace and invite you to come join the TrueCar Crew. You can have a real & direct impact on our journey as we continue to evolve and revolutionize the car buying and selling experience. We are seeking talented individuals who are excited by our mission to revolutionize & elevate the car buying & selling experience.

The Opportunity:

We're looking for an outstanding Lead Product Designer to join our team. You will work closely with the Product Design/UX team, Product leads, engineers, and leadership in the development of critical TrueCar products. You will have influence on major company objectives and be expected to solve difficult design problems, cross-platform. You'll design mobile-first but also understand the rigors of responsive/adaptive web design. You are a gifted interaction designer with a strong UI aesthetic and have the ability to translate your vision not only into beautiful designs but into functional prototypes to demonstrate interactions and real-world feel. If you are the innovator we are seeking, we would love to see your passion projects.

How you will contribute to TrueCar's success:

  • Help define what's next for TrueCar—as a product, a business, and a company

  • Lead the design vision for our core products, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and user experience.

  • Uplevel other designers' vision work and drive vision for the broadest, farthest-looking projects in the organization

  • See gaps in how our visual system works and uplevel it

  • Leverage your knowledge of the industry to define new patterns and norms when needed; your work has an impact beyond TrueCar

  • Peer designers look to you for help and guidance on visual design, and you regularly offer feedback to improve work outside your own

  • Collaborate with Product leads, engineers, executives, and other stakeholders to craft compelling user experiences from concept to completion

  • Translate broad, conceptual ideas into practical and elegant designs

  • Create intuitive design flows, leveraging interactive prototyping to bring visions to life

  • Conduct frequent and thorough usability research to validate concepts, sharing findings with the team to inform decision-making

  • Actively seek and provide feedback from fellow designers, stakeholders, and users, consistently elevating the quality of designs through collaborative refinement

  • Stay updated on advancements in interaction design and contemporary design patterns in support of our master asset library

  • Coach other designers on prioritization, managing dependencies, and requirements definition

  • Partner with our leads in data and research to identify ways of improving TrueCar's overall practices around them

Your Expertise:

  • Internalize and align with the company strategy and vision, focusing on both aesthetics and functionality

  • Possess a robust portfolio featuring examples of visual and interactive product design work

  • Demonstrate strong organizational and analytical thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into user scenarios, flows, and diagrams

  • Have a proven track record of effective collaboration with cross-functional teams

  • Exhibit self-motivation and a passion for solving complex problems; you frequently suggest and execute extra projects outside of core responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with excellent verbal and written skills, capable of defending design decisions

  • Utilize methodologies such as Agile, Design Thinking, and Lean UX in your work

  • Primary experience designing for mobile web (adaptive/responsive tablet, desktop), appreciated experience in app design

  • Expert in Figma and Figma prototyping tools; adept in Adobe

  • Working understanding of web code (HTML, CSS, JS)

  • Familiarity with research tools such as Lyssna, and FullStory et al.

  • Willingness to occasionally travel as requested

Base salary range: $144,000 - $216,000
