Duties & Responsibilities
· Help patients by providing information, services, and assistance.
· Verify patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit.
· Prepare patients for examination by performing and recording preliminary diagnostic tests including dilating eyes, measuring intraocular pressure, measuring visual acuity, and other visual testing.
· Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; and keeping patient information confidential.
· Schedule surgeries by planning with the surgical center; verifying times with patients; and preparing charts and pre-admission and consent forms.
· Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
· Keep supplies ready by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt.
· Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and calling for repairs.
· Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading professional publications.
· Serve and protects the practice by adhering to professional standards; facility policies and procedures; and federal, state, and local requirements.
Experience:
- Previous experience working as an Ophthalmic Technician or in a related healthcare role is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical billing procedures and coding is a plus.
- Knowledge of ophthalmology terminology, anatomy, and common eye conditions.
- Experience working with diverse patients is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages
- Strong attention to detail to accurately document patient information and test results
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems for data entry and retrieval
- Knowledge of proper infection control protocols to maintain a safe clinical environment
