Holtwood Lead Operator
The Holtwood Lead Operator is responsible for the 24/7 operation of the Holtwood Hydro Electric Generation Station. The Lead Operator position is a 12-hour rotating shift position and will be expected to work overtime as needed to support the operation of the facility. The Holtwood Lead Operator may work alone or with the assistance of other Holtwood Specialists, Holtwood Lead Operators, Holtwood Hydro-Technicians and Instrument and Control Technicians.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Operates station control board and utilizes SCADA to operate generators, manipulate 13kV busses as needed, and high voltage transformers.
- Operates and switches all electrical equipment from low voltage up to 69kV and plant auxiliary systems. The Lead Operator must be familiar with these systems to support reliable operation of the station.
- Observes operating conditions of all site equipment as reflected by annunciators, instruments, gauges, SCADA and visual and audible observation.
- Oversees and performs the removal from, and return to service of hydro turbine generators, and all plant auxiliary equipment as directed.
- Communicates with Water Resource Managers, NSCC, Marketing Team as needed to safely and economically operate the station and adjust generation schedules as needed.
- Makes time-sensitive adjustments as necessary to ensure equipment is operating properly.
- Maintains all site equipment as directed. This includes, but is not limited to testing, lubrication, cleaning, diagnosing, troubleshooting and making This also includes the completion of necessary work orders and entering data into the work management system.
- Provides input and supports the updating and development of plant procedures as necessary for operating equipment, and standard plant operations.
- Able to direct the operation of hydro generators when Controlling Authority is transferred from the NSCC.
- Directs or performs switching and blocking to site equipment per the Holtwood LOTO procedure.
- Performs plant rounds and logs periodic readings, records data, runs required tests, interprets results and makes necessary adjustments as needed.
- Directs other employees and job classifications as needed to perform tasks associated with the safe and reliable operation of the station.
- Performs such other related duties as assigned or as or as necessary.
- Follows instructions to ensure compliance with HSSE and regulatory requirements.
Minimum Entry Requirements
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to learn and follow the company’s Lockout/Tagout Processes.
- Working knowledge and adherence to the provisions of the HSSE Rules applicable to work performed.
- Working knowledge of tools and materials used in the performance of the above.
- Ability to interpret prints, diagrams, and specifications.
- Ability to direct other employees of like classification.
- Strength and endurance to perform the above duties.
- Ability to use computer-based systems pertaining to the job.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Associates degree is electrical/electronics preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of power plant/industry experience preferred.
