Job Description
Lead Medical Laboratory Technician (Healthcare Sciences)
Position Title: Lead Medical Laboratory Technician
Location: Houston, TX
Shift: 10PM-6:30AM / 9PM-5:30AM / 12AM-8:30AM
Job Responsibilities
- Lead personnel in daily operations of assigned areas including workflow, test reporting and staffing. Ensures area of responsibility has adequate supplies/ reagents to maintain testing efficiency. Responsible for organizing workload as assigned. Re-prioritize daily goals and change work assignments as necessary.
- Monitor daily workflow in the lab. Resolve workflow problems as they occur assuring that appropriate investigation and follow-up documented.
- Provide leadership and be a technical resource for the shift.
- Lead others by assisting and guiding staff in decision-making and taking on other additional responsibilities. Maintains positive working relationships with staff, other departments, physicians and peers.
- Ensures QC and instrument maintenance in area of responsibility are performed and maintained in compliance with policies of Joint Commission and CAP.
- Investigate problems with equipment, patient results or specimens assuring that proper investigation and follow-up documented.
- Assists Technical Specialist in evaluating new testing methodologies and equipment purchases in accordance with lab standards of performance.
- Assists Technical Specialist by training new employees in area of responsibility. Monitors and verifies employee competencies and assists in evaluating employees in their area of responsibility. Monitors employees in section to ensure good customer service and compliance with laboratory policies.
- Meets all the performance requirements of a MT/MLT as designated in those job descriptions.
- Enforces all hospital and laboratory policies. (i.e. safety, departmental, etc.)
- Helps with developing, implementing and maintaining lab policies and procedures.
- Make appropriate and autonomous decisions within the scope of duties.
- Performs all other tasks/responsibilities as necessary.

Job Requirements
Successful candidates for the Lead Medical Laboratory Technician:
- At least 2 years experience.
- Specialty would be core lab hematology and chemistry with coag and UA.
- It would be nice if they had previous leadership experience but not necessary.
- They would be responsible for 4-6 people.
- Main responsibility would be workflow, troubleshooting, turnaround time monitoring.
- Right now, the lead will be expected to rotate weekends. We are currently trying to fill the weekend shift, when filled then no weekends.
- MLT, MT preferred.
