Lead Material Handler

Location: Torrance, CA
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 12:30 pm - 8:30 pm (Second Shift)
Pay Rate: $23.00 per hour (+$1.50 2nd shift differential)

Status: Direct Hire

General Position Summary:

The Lead Material Handler oversees warehouse functions, including the movement of materials and equipment, to ensure efficient workflow. This role assists in developing work schedules and recommends improvements within the warehouse environment.

What you’ll be doing:

• Perform material handling activities using equipment such as hand trucks and forklifts.
• Organize and store materials in designated warehouse areas.
• Assist in shipping finished products, including weighing parcels and preparing shipping documents.
• Inspect incoming shipments for damage and report discrepancies to the Warehouse Supervisor.
• Pack materials for shipment or storage, ensuring proper arrangement and packaging to prevent damage.

Lead Person Activities:

• Support Warehouse Manager in daily department tasks.
• Ensure accurate sorting and recording of orders, assigning tasks to other Material Handlers.
• Verify product accuracy and report discrepancies to management.
• Maintain records and submit daily status reports to management.

Other Activities:

• Seek continuous improvement in work processes and techniques.
• Maintain good communication both internally and externally.
• Drive to vendor locations for package drop-off or pick-up as needed.
• Maintain inventory of shipping materials and supplies and notify Warehouse Manager when inventory is low.

Essential Job Requirements:
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience & Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum three (3) years' experience in a warehouse environment.
• Proficiency in using office equipment and warehouse tools such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
• Ability to use computer software for business applications.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment.

Physical Requirements & Working Environment:

• Ability to lift and/or move up to 55 lbs.
• Prolonged standing or sitting, frequent bending, stooping, and stretching.
• Valid driver's license and access to a car may be required for driving to vendor locations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 per hour
