Position Overview:
Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Senior Principal / Staff Mechanical Engineer for Integration & Test. This position will be located at our Tactical Space Systems Sector in Gilbert, AZ.
In this position you will support the HALO mission as the Lead Integration and Test Mechanical Engineer (ITME) supporting the design, build, and test validation of the HALO module.

In this position, you will perform duties contributing to Integration and Test (I&T) activities for space vehicle systems and their supporting hardware. I&T Mechanical Engineers coordinate and oversee mechanical build and production operations performed by the technical staff.
Tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Solve challenging technical problems with innovative solutions that meet performance, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Provide daily status of assembly progress to program management and stakeholders and test readiness.
  • Provide feedback and input of mechanical design to the mechanical design group on impacts to I&T
  • Write thorough work instructions for execution on the assembly floor.
  • Determine robust root cause/correct action solutions for Non-conformance Reports (NCRs).
  • Lead a group of less junior engineers for overall project success.
  • Perform trade studies.
  • Evaluate schedule needs and constraints, personnel resources, and operational requirements, then work with I&T Management to resolve in advance.
  • Support on time and on-budget product delivery by reducing/eliminating non-value operations, support lean principals for process improvements, and support performance metrics regarding quality, efficiency, and process improvements.

Basic Qualifications:
Sr. Principal Mechanical Engineer
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 9 years of related experience OR Master's Degree and 7 years of experience
  • Technical experience in one or more of the following areas: integration, test, mechanical operations, or manufacturing
  • Experience writing procedures/work instructions
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills including experience presenting at design review and customer/stakeholder briefings
  • Displayed ability to exercise latitude in determining most appropriate approach of assignments

Staff Engineer
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related area and 14 years of related experience OR Master's Degree and 12 years of experience
  • Technical experience in one or more of the following areas: integration, test, mechanical operations, or manufacturing
  • Experience writing procedures/work instructions
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills including experience presenting at design review and customer/stakeholder briefings
  • Displayed ability to exercise latitude in determining most appropriate approach of assignments

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience with NASA Space Flight Programs
  • Familiarity with Deltek's Costpoint MES
  • Use of collaborative tools such as JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience with PTC PLM software: Windchill, Creo, Creo View, etc.
  • High level of experience and capability with Microsoft Office programs including Project.
  • Experience handling space flight components, have a detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes applicable to spaceflight hardware, and a design for manufacturing/test focus.
  • Proficient at interpreting complex engineering drawings, schematics, diagrams, and specifications and providing feedback to Design Engineering.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, which include project and team leadership experience.
  • Excellent communication skills

Salary Range: $123,000.00 - $143,000.00Salary Range 2: $145,000.00 - $168,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
