Lead Histology Technician

Job Summary:

The Lead, Histology Technologist is responsible for assisting in the oversight of processes, documentation, workflow and problem solving in the histology department.

Duties/Responsibilities

· Serve as master trainer.

· Perform competency assessments.

· Serves as an escalation point to resolve issues.

· Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specification.

· Participate in regulatory agency inspection readiness and onsite inspections.

· Perform equipment validation, reagent optimization and validation following regulatory guidelines and procedures.

· Report monthly metrics.

· Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.

· Perform grossing, embedding, microtomy, and staining of patient samples.

· Maintain proficiency and competency in performance for the testing menu of the department.

Education and Experience

• Associates Degree in laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an

accredited institution, OR

• At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that include:

• 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, or 24 semester hours of

science courses that include 6 hours of chemistry; 6 hours of biology and 12 semesters

hours of chemistry, biology, OR

• Medical laboratory technology in any combination and have laboratory training in

either: completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by

ABHES, CAHEA, HHS and at least 3 months documented training in each specialty

in which the individual performs high complexity testing, OR

• Grandfathered exception (42 CFR 493.1489 and 1491).

• Employee is occasionally required to lift office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
