Experience and Education
High School diploma or equivalent mandatory and one (1) year of experience working in Histology lab.
HT(ASCP) is required OR 2 years working in clinical histology laboratory as FT Histotech in lieu of ASCP certificate.
Additional Information: Shift hours are Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM-10:30 PM. Possible rotating holidays and weekends
Job Duties
Performs processing cutting, embedding, staining and cover slipping according to and without deviation from established laboratory policies and procedures.
Recognizes deviation from expected results. Analyzes and corrects problems according to procedure. Demonstrates problem solving skills and critical thinking abilities. Performs QC documentation, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance.
Demonstrates ongoing competency skills by successfully completing assigned proficiency testing, annual competency updates and annual performance improvement activity. Masters new techniques quickly and efficiently.
Ensures smooth workflow in all areas of pathology. Meets all expectations for turnaround time, pending test reports, qc review, inventory, new employee orientation and training, customer service, multi-task ability, and computer entry.
Exhibits efficient use of time and resources. Reports for work on assigned days at assigned times. Coordinates daily tasks to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency during assigned shift.
Performs special projects such as evaluation of new reagents, procedures, tests. Serves on committees and task forces. Keeps work area neat and clean. Maintains professional appearance at all times.
Achieves minimum of ten (10) continuing education hours annually. Seeks knowledge in and outside of functional area.
Participates in performance improvement activities.
Performs other duties as assigned . 'Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing, or similarly affecting human-subjects research records
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in a hospital or hospital clinic environment. Walking, standing, bending, turning, and stooping .
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums require prior approval of Vice President for Human Resources or his/her designee.
