Job Duties
Virginia Defenders - Indigent Defense Commission (IDC) is seeking a Lead Financial Analyst (Lead Accountant) to join the Finance team. The position serves as the agency's Lead Financial Analyst. VIDC is dedicated to protecting and defending the rights and dignity of our clients through zealous, compassionate, high-quality legal advocacy. The Lead Financial Analyst (Lead Accountant) reports to the Budget and Finance Director. This position is eligible for limited telework opportunities, not to exceed two days per week after the first six months of employment. This is an at-will employment opportunity. The candidate must demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and should adhere to deadlines and ensure timely delivery of services at all times. This position is responsible for:

• Leading the fiscal operations and general accounting.
• Compliance activities including vouchers, expense reports, FAACS, LAS review, and approval processes.
• Payroll review and certification process.
• Fiscal year-end schedules/attachments.
• Preparation and completion of 1099 reporting.
• Various reconciliation processes/reviews.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education, training, certification, and/or experience in Accounting, Business, Financial Management, or a closely related field or comparable experience is required.
• Knowledge of basic accounting practices and procedures is required.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of financial accounting policies and procedures is required.
• Experience in analyzing and processing financial transactions is required.
• The ability to examine financial data, perform a critical analysis of the data, and develop spreadsheets reflecting the analysis is required.
• Ability to interpret policies and procedures relative to financial activities and transactions, accounts payable, and the Commonwealth's Small Purchase Charge Card (SPCC) program is required.
• The ability to prepare and update policy and procedures is required.
• Ability to interpret statutes, rules, and policies and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Demonstrated strong administrative and organizational skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Proficient use of computers including the use of Microsoft Office applications, email, and web-based applications.
• Familiarity with Google Suite applications to include Gmail, Google sheets, and Google docs, etc.
• Regular attendance is required.

• An equivalent combination of state financial experience and education will also be considered.
