About the Role
The Lead Facilities Technician (LFT) supports Hatchery operations under the supervision of the Operations Managers by safely and successfully maintaining and repairing Hatchery facilities, equipment, and vehicles. The LFT is responsible for general Hatchery facility ground's cleanliness and organization. LFT's are professional, organized, self-motivated, possess strong communication skills, and lead by example. It is the LFT's responsibility to ensure that all operating tasks are completed in a manner consistent with company policies, procedures, and Operations Manager expectations.
Duties, Responsibilities, & Requisites
Production & Projects

  • Lead installation and operation of animal life support systems, monitoring and control systems, filtration, pumping, plumbing and other electro-mechanical equipment in collaboration with the HLT.
  • Inspect equipment regularly for signs of malfunctions, including visual inspections, listening for irregular noises, and conducting scheduled testing as appropriate. Diagnose and repair.
  • Maintain a practical understanding of departmental operations and ensure open communication with the Hatchery Leadership Team (HLT).
  • Provide input to the Operations Managers for plans and schedules. Assist in coordinating daily/weekly staffing, tasks, and priorities.
  • Develop, maintain, and follow a schedule for inspecting, servicing, and testing vehicles, machinery, and equipment.
  • Oversee and maintain optimal inventory levels for tools, spare parts, and related items ensuring proper purchasing protocol is followed.
  • Monitor and report on department Key Performance Indicators.
  • Understand and communicate department KPI to team members and help lead team to reach KPI goals.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in the workshop and around critical machinery areas.
  • Conduct or coordinate outsourced fabrication needs for the hatchery to include but not limited to fabrication of containment, filtration, systems, and a variety of specialized systems.
  • Participates in the on-call response team occasionally requiring working non-standard hours on short notice.

Team
  • Maintain, comply with, and monitor team's compliance of Company policies and procedures, including safety and biosecurity protocols.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining a high performing team, conduct training, and assistance with conflict resolution. Develop SOPs as needed.
  • Promote a culture of safety, integrity, cohesion, and excellence.
  • Perform any duties assigned by the Operations Manager necessary to operate the department and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Occasional hands-on work with animals.

Experience, Education and Key Competencies
  • Three years or more of relevant experience preferred.
  • Capable of leading small teams to achieve project-specific goals.
  • Strong working knowledge of water treatment and pumping systems, electro-mechanical equipment, monitoring and control systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of standard construction and maintenance tools including hand tools, shop tools and aquaculture-specialized tools.
  • Be self-motivated and independent worker with strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including ability to multi-task and manage paperwork.
  • Strong computer skills, including all MS Office applications.
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Understand and comply with workplace safety standards.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and have a clear drivers abstract.
  • Able to work atypical schedule, including Saturdays, Sundays & holidays
  • Be able to consistently lift 50 lbs., frequently climb 4+ feet, & work in a sunny, hot, & humid environment.
