ABOUT THIS POSITION
In this role, the Lead Database Engineer will play a crucial role in overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust database systems, provides administration, design, and development support in our diverse, fast-paced, & growing environment. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Microsoft SQL Server database management systems. The Lead Database Engineer will also analyze system performance, database performance, system health checks, and collaborate with Application Engineering teams to tune new and existing database access interfaces. This role provides plenty of opportunity for personal growth and development, while interacting with a positive, open team that is supportive of continued knowledge sharing and team advancement.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
    • Strong understanding of database architecture, design, and best practices.
    • Design and implement database solutions that meet the organization's business requirements/standards.
    • Performs system and application monitoring and alerting related to the SQL Server environment.
    • Collaborates with the cross functional teams to understand requirements and translate them to efficient database structures.
    • Participate in design and review of the new project requirements.
    • Effectively communicate and guide Application Engineering teams in SQL development.
    • Automates Systems Management tasks.
    • Conducts Performance Analysis and tuning.
    • Operationalizes new technologies introduced into the environment.
    • Coaches team members, helping them develop into more senior/experienced resources.
    • Ability to demonstrate creative thinking, advanced problem-solving, and troubleshooting.
    • Primarily responsible for administration of MSSQL Server
    • In Depth knowledge of High Availability solutions, such as Mirroring, Replication, Clustering, & Always On (Availability Groups).
    • Understanding of database security users and roles.

    • Performance monitoring and analysis of SQL queries.
    • Effectively write performant SQL queries.
    • Perform code reviews and provide feedback.
    • Understanding of data recovery techniques from backup/restore.
    • Can effectively monitor real-time transaction processing and identify issues.
    • Solves complex technical problems with little oversight.
    • Can design solutions with the overall product direction in mind.
    • Able to plan and initiate a multi-sprint project.
    • Experience with clustered database setup.
    • Highly specialized knowledge in the given technical or product domain.
    • Onboards new team members.
    • Participates in an on-call response rotation (24x7 environment)
    • Additional duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED
  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
    • 6+ years' experience is preferred.
    • Proven experience as a Database Engineer with primary focus on Microsoft SQL Server

    • Knowledge of PostgreSQL and MySQL is a plus.
    • Strong understanding of database design principles and architectural considerations.
    • Proficiency in scripting languages (primarily PowerShell) for automating database management tasks.
    • In-depth understanding of security best practices.
    • Strong leadership and project management skills.
    • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database problems.
    • Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, integrity, and self-motivated.
    • Ability to work effectively in a team.

    Preferred Skills:
    • Experience with cloud technologies Microsoft Azure, AWS.
    • Experience with SSIS, SSAS.
    • Experience in Linux is a plus.
