Perplexity is looking for a tech Lead Backend Engineer to join our small team revolutionizing the way people search and interact with the internet. You will be responsible for leading design, implementation, and scaling of systems that power web and mobile products.
Our backend stack is Python, Postgresql, Redis, and Kubernetes, built alongside dedicated AI and search interfaces. The ideal candidate should have experience leading system design, infrastructure, scaling, testing, and maintenance.
Responsibilities- Technical leadership around a rapidly evolving product.
- Ability to plan and deliver a backend roadmap powerful enough to deliver the product.
- The ability to translate and adapt to changing needs and priorities.
- Experience with web server backend scaling and performance.
- Experience with interfaces between backend and consumer web/mobile clients.
- Setting standards for reliability, code quality, testing, and maintenance.
- Onboard and ensure code quality for a growing team.
- Strong experience with Python.
- Strong experience with databases and caching.
- Experience with infrastructure/kubernetes.
- Extensible system design skills.
- Eye for high quality code and tech debt.
- Organizational skills around delivering large technical projects.
- 8+ years of engineering experience.
- 2+ years of technical leadership experience.

Our cash compensation range for this role is $200,000 - $240,000.
Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including, experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Equity: In addition to the base salary, equity is part of the total compensation package.
