POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the VP of Finance in managing, directing and supervising all accounting activities.
DUTES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Is responsible for, but not limited to the following functions:
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for a wide variety of general accounting functions including
- Maintaining ledgers,
- Preparing grant billing,
- Reconciling general ledger accounts, monthly accruals,
- Reconciling credit card receivables,
- Journalizing transactions,
- Reconciling bank statements, and producing monthly financial statement.
- Assists with the yearly agency budget.
- Coordinates the annual financial audit and prepares audit work papers.
- Evaluates and reviews internal controls to ensure that transactions are properly reflected in the accounting system in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Maintains account receivable ledgers and prepares and processes monthly invoices for grant submission and reimbursement.
- Assists program directors with questions regarding their monthly statements and budgets.
- Reviews accounts payable vouchers and processes checks weekly.
- Responsible for sending out all yearly 1099’s.
- Gives direction and guidance to Accounts Payable Specialist / Interns / Temps.
- Prepares and maintains inventory records of all capitalized equipment.
- Generates depreciation schedules for the end of the year audit.
- Other duties as assigned by the Finance Director.
- Assist with ad hoc reporting
- Assist with month end close and year end close
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Finance.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelors in accounting preferred but degree is not required.
Experience:
- 4 years’ experience in overall duties related to fund accounting
- Experience submitting government reimbursement requests
- Perform accurate data entry
- M.I.P, Martus and Mineraltree software experience is a plus
- 1+ years of professional working experience, preferably in a Non Profit setting
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Ability to multi-task, stay organized, and meet deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Compensation: $60,000-$65,000 dependent upon qualifications.
