Academic advisors at UCCS accomplish this mission by providing high quality, personalized, and comprehensive advising to degree seeking students from orientation through graduation.   4. Helping students to develop self-authorship and personal responsibility and to value higher education as they engage in their educational journey.

Job Duties:
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide leadership, direction and supervision to team of advisors within the department.
  • Mentor staff and create and implement professional development plans for direct reports.
  • Work with the Director and Advising Leadership Team in strategic planning and assessment for the department.
  • Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of academic advising teams and supporting department operations.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to front desk student employees and operations.
  • Provide proactive and developmental academic advising to undergraduate students by analyzing student's career and academic goals, degree progress, deficiencies, and test results, and by recommending appropriate course of action or referrals.
  • Lead advisors also provide leadership and support to advising teams to provide proactive advising.
  • Provide advising that improves overall student retention.
  • Actively lead and participate in department initiatives for student success, including required first year advising and early alert outreach and intervention.
  • Assist students experiencing academic difficulties (early alert warnings, academic probation, and suspension) and students identified as being at-risk to develop a plan of action to promote academic success; conducts appropriate academic counseling intervention; refers students to appropriate resources.
  • Collaborate with campus departments and partners such as Orientation, Career Services and Office of Student and Family Programs to support student success and create content to support student success at UCCS.
  • Evaluate transfer credit from other colleges for application toward undergraduate degree programs by determining how the transfer courses equate to our requirements.
  • Provide leadership and assist with orientation preparation and execution; review and equate transfer work, check for high school deficiencies, and ensure that students are ready for registration and advising at orientation.
  • Provide essential advising information to new students at orientations and help the students get registered for their first semester of classes before the end of the orientation session.
  • Keep accurate, detailed, and complete records, while maintaining appropriate confidentiality at all times.
  • Contribute to the success of the department and University by abiding by team norms, accomplishing tasks affecting other team members in a timely manner, work closely with team members in creating presentations and advising resources, and always representing Academic Advising in a professional way.
  • Responsible for training new advisors on all aspects of advising.
  • Represent advising in committees and in presentations to constituents.
  • Practice effective management of student caseloads and seek out improvements in students' advising experience.

    This position has been determined to be eligible for overtime (non-exempt) under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
    What We Offer
    Salary Range: Generally starting at $55,000 - $60,000
    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    Tentative Search Timeline:

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications
    Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
    • Education: Master's degree from an accredited college
    • Experience: 5 years of professional experience in academic advising or a related field directly supporting student growth and development. Additional years of advising experience may substitute for master's degree.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Supervisory experience.
    • Experience leading teams of co-workers in a university setting.
    • Experience with University of Colorado degrees, tools (CU-SIS, degree audit), and processes.
    • Direct experience in creating and implementing retention and graduation initiatives

    Physical Requirements
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit. Employee is occasionally required to move. Tasks may involve looking at computer screen continuously for long periods of time. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
